Miles Per Tank

i do mostly city driving and i drive spiritedly so about 17 MPG or close to 280 miles per tank. i drive that 280 miles in two weeks though :D

I drive 100 miles round trip everyday so that is why I asked. So far I see it as a slight decrease in mileage compared to my P5 but with a larger tank which will help me from getting gas every three days.

I drive mostly highway with maybe three miles of city, by the time I hit the exit.

I put a lot of miles on my car, and have to keep track of them being that I am in Sales. I easily get 310 miles to a tank with mixed city and highway driving. If I'm driving aggressively the lowest I have seen is 280. All highway I can hit 380 miles with my cruise set at 75mph. I have 18000 miles on my car and keep track of every mile of it. Hope this helps.

I'm in the same situation on the miles tracking and have matching mileage #s. I usually push the tank to at least 330 with mixed city/highway/sprited driving. Caveat = no "crap gas" and always run 93 Octane.

In stop and go city driving I get about 420 kms from full until the gas light comes on and it usually takes about 55 litres to fill it up and I only use 94 octane. I get about 600 km's of highway driving out of a tank.

Where are you shifting at? Are your tires properly inflated? What speeds do you typically drive at? Do you take off from red lights?

All of these can dramatically effect your mileage. I'd suggest shifting at 2000-2500 at the highest, stay out of boost like the plague. Start keeping track of your mileage from each tank, I'd bet that your mileage goes up just from monitoring it.

Well, i know why i get low gas mileage but it still seems LOW. I drive the hell out of the car all the time so of course its gonna be low. But i drove from charleston, sc to pensacola, fl and i only got about 21mpg all the way down there. And that was at about 85 or so... i still think thats low. Im just thinking somehow this is all tied into my stutter but thats a whole different thread!

Yeah....might wanna cut tha down a bit lol. I love doing the jaunts up to 100-120, but I find myself doing those less and less. I stay about 68 on the freeway, and I've found to get the best mileage on the highway.

I got to check my mileage.

I know im not getting the mileage numbers you guys are. but i think im at like 280 per tank and its city driving. highway isnt bad but not that much better.

<Maybe ill switch to syntetic oil and what not.

its a 05 6s

Guys,
I have mazda6-2006/4cyl/automatic and today when I filled my gas and calculated mpg, it was 32 mpg. Basically, 65% highway and 35% city stop/go traffic

That's what I'm talking about. Is it stock?

Yes, just purchased used last week and is bone stock from what I can tell.

I drove in from Missouri City, TX (SW Houston) to Oklahoma City OK last Monday in 105 degree weather on one tank. Cruise was set at 74 MPH (Texas) / 79 MPH (Oklahoma) with the AC cranked. I topped off at just over 500 miles and calculated a 31.35 mpg average.

31.35 mpg x 18 gallons = 564.3 mile range.

You get ~50hp more with the MS6 vs. a V6 MZ6 (274 vs. 222 i think)

The V6 runs on regular 87 octane

The MS6 will run in a 'safe mode' where the wastegate opens at 4100 rpm so you can't get full boost, the car is made to run on 93+ for best results.
This is incorrect in regards to 91 vs 93 octane. The safe mode you've described had to do w/ overly sensitive knock sensor programming from the ECU. This "Safe Mode" powerloss issue was somewhat common in the early days of the MS6 regardless of whether you were using 91 or 93 octane, and was corrected for w/ the "Loss of Power" ECU reflash which was released a couple years ago...

You are correct, I also verified that from Mazda USA. Remember that while the 6 is made in Flat Rock, the MS6 was made in Hofu, Japan. I would guess that's what caused the tank size to differ.
The difference in fuel tank size has nothing to do w/ the 6 and MS6's final assembly point, but rather the packaging and space requirements needed for the MS6's rear drive portion of it's AWD drivetrain.

^ glad you said that first.

My 06' Speed will average 22.xx almost every tank, in town driving.. running 130mph, putting around town.. even have seen 24-25mpg. The hwy mileage will go from 26-29mpg if we get 93octane in it.. on 91 she'll average 25-26mpg running 70-80mph.
We did get 29.4 running 85-90mph once.. These cars get better mileage than the EPA rating.
