Miles Per Tank

This is incorrect in regards to 91 vs 93 octane. The safe mode you've described had to do w/ overly sensitive knock sensor programming from the ECU. This "Safe Mode" powerloss issue was somewhat common in the early days of the MS6 regardless of whether you were using 91 or 93 octane, and was corrected for w/ the "Loss of Power" ECU reflash which was released a couple years ago...

I was simply restating info from the tech handout. Obviously that was before any of the TSBs and reflashes came out.

The difference in fuel tank size has nothing to do w/ the 6 and MS6's final assembly point, but rather the packaging and space requirements needed for the MS6's rear drive portion of it's AWD drivetrain.

Granted, but they don't make AWD 6's in Flat Rock.

My 06' Speed will average 22.xx almost every tank, in town driving.. running 130mph, putting around town.. even have seen 24-25mpg. The hwy mileage will go from 26-29mpg if we get 93octane in it.. on 91 she'll average 25-26mpg running 70-80mph.
We did get 29.4 running 85-90mph once.. These cars get better mileage than the EPA rating.

+1, except the 28mpg+ at speed is repeatable for me.

What are some of your driving habits like? I've got a brand new '07 GT (2k miles). My last tank, which was all driving around town, I got 17.4 MPG. Granted, it was a LOT of stop and start, maybe 5-6 miles per trip. On an all highway trip, I did get around 27.8.

I'm wondering what RPMs folks are shifting at, I usually wind out to 4k, but maybe i'm hitting the throttle a little too hard.

On my trip from MI to Myrtle Beach, with 2 other guys in the car + luggage, doing 70-75 mph the whole way, I averaged about 29 mpg. I'm not gonna complain one bit. I'm anxious to see how the return trip fares, I'll have one less guy in the car.

I didn't get real good mileage till I had 10,000 miles or so on it. The first time I got 28 hwy was when I had the car loaded with gear, trip from Minn. to CT. Around town, forget it. I'm a little too leadfoot and get around 20-23.

the best i have got so far is 400 to the tank on the highway...

I got 415 on a tank cruising at 90 through OH last night on my way home. I'm convinced it's not how fast you go, but you're acceleration habits that dictate your mileage.

I'll second this. Like I said, I get between 400-430 miles every tank on 92 octane. ~65% is highway mileage but.... I don't boost an awful lot (unless I'm passing someone). I think if you stay out of the boost you will see your MPG go up big time.

i just made a trip to las vegas from oklahoma city and i got 32.7 MPG for 2400 miles round trip thats not too bad.

yeah i agree. i'll be driving the speed from ny to phx and back-i'll be watching my habits...i definitely want the best gas mileage lol.

So you guys with the spped 6 get way better then me... i wonder y. I am getting 12.6 mpg. I drive ALL city about 16 miles per day and i cant figure out what to do to get my MPG up...

Yeah what he said I get about the same,,,, but I do drive like an ass most of the time ...... I get about 28mpg on the highway but most of my driving is city I only average about 280 miles on a tank. I think some of these #'s on here are inflated ,,,, most are reporting higher than the car is even rated ?

I just a trip almost all highway, pushed out 378, but when filling up it took 14.099 GAL, so not much left in the system for sure. Per an earlier comment, I think the key is watching how hard you push the acceleration. I was avg. about 80 on the trip w/ AirCon on the entire trip.

I don't have a lot of mileage on this car (2500) - but still getting poor gas mileage in city driving.

I've got from 17.5 - 18.5 MPG around town - and i'm not hammering on the gas all the time either.

One thing that might contribute to the poor mileage is my commute to work is about 3-4 miles - so i'm not traveling more that 5-8 miles per start/stop of the car.

I do get much better highway, got 27 last time I took it on an all highway trip.

Any reason to worry?

I have an 06 MS6 and my gas mileage is really bad anyhting i can do to improve except like the whole oil change and all cause ill prob do that tomorrow but wat else is there? im deff not gettin 18 mpg becuase i have to keep puttin gas i go for a 20 minutes drive not beatin on it an it goes down a quarter of a tank
any ideas??????

drove to raleigh from jersey this past week...
averaged a bit over 31mpg.. mostly highway with ac and occassional boost..
speed ranged in the highway from 60-80mph... moreso on the upper range

I've had my speed 6 for 2 months now. It had 23,000 miles on it and for the first month i would only get 280 to 300 miles per tank. I started shifting before 3 k and now i get around 330 to 350. That's with 70% city 30% highway and on 91. But yeah staying off the boost really helps.
