Midwest Mazdafest 2009

You havent offended "the rotary gods" dude... Actually to be honest we just ended up having a bunch of RX-7 guys start bashing the s*** out of us... creating new screen names every day just to start s*** like "Your cars are so slow"...and all that s***...

We also had a bunch of spammers start hitting us, no doubt because one of the RX-7 guys is a big computer geek....So the reason we have all those screening things on is because of those dicks... I shut them off after your post.

So that being said...how bout we start over and say... we hope to see you at the event... once you get to know us you can make fun of our slow cars...and we will throw all the trash in the station wagons! (bowdown)

And yes... you will still have to give information, but you dont have to answer the question anymore...lol

Why would the RX-7 guys bash you? Seems kinda stupid. It'd be like me bashing the Speed6 or something.

Also, if you need to haul groceries, hit us up ;)

Agreed. Your not just saying this to get me up there so you can beat the s*** out of me are you? I''l have to receive a new name and be protected by the Wenkel protection program.

I hope so. The only issue is money.

I'm going solo, wife don't care about CARS, so I'll be going on the cheap. I'm going down Friday morning for one night and driving home Saturday night after the BBQ and before some of the young guys start getting stupid. I plan on staying at the Microtel Inn.

Funny you say that...we have three Mazda 3's that are regulars in our club. We use them as our support vehicles.... and the MS3 always takes the lead in our cruised to watch out for (five-0)

The 7 guys could care less how nice a car looks, how well it handles, how fun it is to drive.... if it isnt fast it sucks! Actually there are just a few of the guys that are like that.... we have some great 7 owners in our club...

Oh well... seriously guys... you will have a blast if you come... Lots of cool prizes... and the scavenger hunt is pretty fun... we did it at our Deals Gap outing last year...

May have to come up for this. I know a few people in indy I wouldn't mind meeting up with again.

No offense to the rotary guy in this thread; but, it's been the experience of the V8 RX-7 group that the rotary guys are really touchy about their cars. I got the feeling they don't want anyone around who isn't a purist. I dropped out of the RX7club forum for that reason, even though we also own the RX-8. I knew the little LT1 RX-7 I had would not be welcomed for long. I don't know why; but, that's the way it is. They say we take the souls out of the cars when we do the swaps. As much as I like the rotary concept, that V8 sure sounded good in our RX-7 and probably improved its dependability.

To tell you the truth, our RX-8 isn't too bad; but, I have made fun of my wife by telling her my '06 Miata could easily outrun her. That Miata is gone; so, it's a moot point. She does give me that ugly look, though. The RX-8 does handle well and is nice to drive. It could be the speed is hidden by it's smooth acceleration. I love its shifter. Very smooth. It does get a lot of compliments for my wife. To her, that's what counts. If she's happy with it, I'm happy.

I'm so thankful Mazda doubled the warranty time on the car to 96 months and 96K miles. I've read so much about things that can go wrong with them that I think a long warranty is handy to have around. So far, no complaints from us, though. Well, having to check the oil because it uses it is a bit different; but, I can't complain because the LS6 in my Miata uses a little, as well. The other Mazdas we've owned haven't, though.

As for the meet, I may go; but, most likely I'll take my LS6 Miata to a more local show. If I knew what the six classes are to be, I'd have a better idea. I'll watch this thread, in the meantime. I couldn't get into their forum and have no desire to join it because I'm not a rotary enthusiast. We own one because my wife wanted one. I would never have bought one for myself just because of the past problems with them. Besides, I'm not sure my tainted LS6 Miata would be welcomed any more than V8 RX-7s would be. :( Maybe the one who is asking us to come could shed some light on that, even though we already know he's a bit touchy about these things. I could possibly relay the info to the V8RX7forum.

Whew! Enough said!

The IndyRotaryClub welcomes ALL mazda enthusiasts and your Miata would be just as welcome as any other car. As a matter of fact, one of our regular members just finished a V8 swap into a miata and he drives it to our events instead of his 8 so you probably wouldn't be the only one there :) I can understand your comments about the RX-7 community and how they shun those who do any sort of engine swap outside of a rotary, but our club certainly doesn't act that way. I think the only reason this thread started out on the wrong foot was because there was some bashing getting started when we've not even had a chance to meet each other and all we're doing is inviting everyone to a meet! As flyboyindy said, we all love to give each other a hard time and talk smack but let's do it in person once we know each other. Oh and as he also stated, the only reason the site is so heavily guarded is because we had to tighten security a bit recently to keep some spammers out. It looks like he has opened the gates a bit and we hope to see several of you sign up so that you can receive updates on this event and who knows......maybe you'll make a friend or two out of the deal!

As much as I think that putting a V8 into a Mazda like this takes the soul of the car away from it, I appreciate the amount of work put into the cars to turn them into powerhouses from hell! I love seeing the work done to the cars, and I'd be interested in seeing whatever you decide to bring!

We've been lucky enough to own Mazdas on both sides of the fence. We've had two pure stock Miatas and currently own a pure stock RX-8. All have been fine cars. However, trust me when I tell you putting a V8 in one does not remove the soul. On the contrary, a V8 strengthens the car's soul. It is this difference in opinion that sometimes leads to hurt feelings. That's why I left the RX-7 group. I could see the writing on the wall. Some are just so hard core, even to the point of being snobbish about it, that I knew I wouldn't be welcome for long because I'd feel compelled to express my opinions. I don't even visit the RX forums on this site for the same reasons.

As for my making an appearance, I'll have to see what's going on in central KY, first. I bought two cars to show in 2009. I'd better make sure I do just that. Since we did really well in the central KY area with the LT1 RX-7, I may stay here to see how the new cars do. Besides, I've built up some friendships with some of the local car show enthusiasts during this past show season and would like to be with them, as much as possible. I'd still like to know what the trophy classes will be to see if it's worth my while to drive up there.

Well, I'll be the first to say that I'm interested in seeing how a swapped Mazda drives. I'm open minded.

Mine is pretty nimble. I can't tell much difference in the stock vs the V8 version of either car. I'd say the V8 version RX-7 or MX-5 might push a little in the autocross events because of the extra weight. Maybe not. Both are very heavy steering when the PS stops working, though. I've let the engine die a couple of times in the driveway and could barely steer either. I'd say they'd be fine while rolling, though. Since I'm not into racing of any kind, I can only test the limits while going through curves. Both do well at that. I don't know what their limits are; but, they both perform to my limits just fine. I don't creep through curves, either. I'm just not as fast at it as I used to be.

If you know someone who owns a V8 version of either of these cars, maybe you can get a ride. I don't offer my cars up for that. My son got to drive the RX-7 once and has never driven the Miata. He's 32 and still considers it a great priviledge to get to drive one of our cars. I do need to let him drive the Miata, though. He was good enough to take three days of his time to go with me to VA to pick the car up. He got a kick out of driving the RX-8 back home for me. :D

Oh, I didn't want to drive it. Just a ride around the block would suffice. haha.

Hey Moultese, how much to take a few wicked shots of my ride at the meet and make me a sig? :P

lol, I'd do it for free. However, I cannot take credit for the "good" photos of my car. They were taken by a friend of mine who is extremely good at photography.
