Miata with V8!

V8 Miatas are insane. It's a rather common swap and is generally referred to as a Monster Miata. There used to be a readily available kit to shoe horn a Ford 302 with tranny into the car.

I'd love to drive one some time.

I know they are quick but how much do they disrupt the miatas perfect 50/50 weight balance? would it be cheaper/easier to turbocharger/supercharge one? not that monster miatas are bad :)

and if using a ford aluminum block you dont add to much more weight

Of course it throws the weight off.

That time is not impressive. I'm not much on the V8's or anything and I don't keep up with their track times, but I know a Miata that can easily kill that one. I think it'd just be easier (and makes more sense) to tc/sc a Miata. If you are like me and want to keep the "roots" of a mazda, you won't slap a LS1 or whatever kind of engine into a Miata.

I remember I made a thread when I first joined about a Monster Miata, hrm. *goes to find*

of course it's easier to force feed a 4cyl, but where's the fun in that? besides, something about the way a domestic v8 with a nice cam, and exchaust sounds... Also the weigh is not altered too much, the v-8 sits back far enough that it isn't an issue.

But it is altered.

now we're talking! An all aluminum 505 hp LS7 with a 6 speed... that would make for a nice ride.

The way I see it, shoe-horning a V8 into a miata is no different than all the craziness that went on in the 60 with people(companies) shoving small blocks into every teenie tiny british car they could get their hands on. Austin Healeys, MG's, AC's, etc etc. It's the natural progression :)
