I got the engine running :) but its VERY rough...gotta set the idle tomorrow along w/ the timing...will post back tomorrow :).

The idle shouldn't cause it to run rough unless it's set waaay low.

Here are a few things to check:

-Check for vacuum leaks and make sure all of your injectors/spark plugs are firing. Pull each plug one by one and inspect it. Are you using new plugs? If new, and one looks like it did when it came out of the box, there's no fuel. If it's wet, there's no spark.
-Make sure your VAM is connected (I've made that mistake before).
-Check your timing with a timing light (the CAS may be misoriented).
-Confirm the proper order of your plug wires on the coil pack.

well for some reason the firing order was WAY OFF..the 1.8s are different from the 1.6s I guess. I went by what the Enthuiasts manual said for the 1.8. So after Wayne's brother helped me with that one, it is running smooth but idling at around 1,500 rpms. I need to set the idle and then check the timing advance...right now with the high idle it is reading something off the chart on the advance (way to the right of T).

I also have to check if I didnt put the bracket from the 1.6 crank pulley (the flat black disc w/ marks on it) on backwards HAHA that would suck, but it wont be that hard to take off and flip around.

A high idle could be indicitave of a vacuum leak. Make sure all of the unused vac. taps on the manifold are sealed. IIRC, there's one on the back of the manifold by the firewall that's hard to see.

Since you are using the 1.6 computer and 1.6 coils, the firing order shouldn't have changed at all.

the firing order isnt what the enthuiast manual says... thats all I know. And I had to plug up a vaccume leak coming off the intake manifold where the PRC valve is.

Now I set the timing advance and the idle... waited till the car cooled off and noticed there is a pretty large coolant leak coming from somewhere on the driver side of the car. once the car cooled off I tightened my pos bracket for the coils from flyin miata and the crank angle sensor itself.

Now the idle is all messed up and so is the timing...wtf? I am so sick and tired of this F-ing car... Im soooo close to just driving it home and taking it to rspeed and having them fix whatever the hell is wrong with it.

well its running better than before but it is still hesistating a little bit. Do these car hesitate when they are advanced too far or have too much retard on the timing?

Remeber to advance the timing the mark has to go left of 10 (center). If its way right then its off. And off idle it should move left. Make sure the motor is warmed up before you check and set your idle first.

Also, make sure the timing gun isn't set to advance, crank the knob to '0' (I think) or whatever counterclockwise and to the bottom is.

my gun is the cheap one, no knob on the back :p. But I think its set correct.. Ill wait till the techron eats the crap in the injectors and see how it runs.

durrh, i wasnt looking at the right spot on the crank pulley. I set timing correctly this morning, and the car hauls balls!

Awsome! Told ya ;) . Congrats on getting the her to run finally?

When do you work at the SB next? I want to see the car (since I live just behind where you work).

Saturday afternoon... but if you want to come by and see it, your best bet is Sunday around 2 or 3 (I get off at 3pm sunday)...

Sorry about that, Justin. And no, the 'date' wasn't with Luke (as much as he'd liked it to have been) ;) .

its all good, come out to the northpoint meet thursday... I may be there. If not, I work friday from 1-8 but I am trying to get off a little early that day.
