Mexico Starts Selling Speed3s!

A while back I wondered if buying an MS3 from Mexico would be cheaper. Just like the Canadians are buying from here. So I asked my friend in Mexico if they even had them, but they didn't.

Just a few minutes ago my friend in Mexico sent me this link http://www.mazdamexico.com.mx/mexico/mazdaspeed3 And she said that she just saw the commercial on tv for it. So it looks like they just started selling them over there.

Seems they are only selling the Grand Touring model. And the colors to choose from are white, black, and red. And Unfortunately it's going to cost just under $28,000. So looks like i'm out of luck on the getting it cheaper idea. :(

Here's something i'm wondering now. With production ending on June 10th (I may be recalling this wrong), why would they just introduce the MS3 to Mexico now? Not much of a demand? Any chance for another production line? Let me know what ya'll think. :)

right now mazda sales in mexico are minimal at best. They only sell in 3 cities, and the sales locations are all mazda owned and operated. Thats a far different situation from the norms here in the us, canada and europe.

I would think a small run of speed 3 cars would be enough to last their sales channel the rest of the year. Besides, the mazda 2 mps will likely be a bigger seller in mexico due to pricing differences.

They had mine in the showroom and the salesguy, while a nice guy, didn't seem to want to take it out of the showroom. I was about to walk and mentioned that I hadn't test drove a new car in probably 5 or 6 years, and they went ahead and moved desks and a car or two to get the MS3 out of the showroom. I didn't buy that day but did come back a few days later after I'd made a pretty good deal over the phone.

I bet they were pissed for moving the car that day since you didnt buy.

The guys didn't freaking want to let me test drive it cuz they said it was a limited car so they didnt want to miles on it. So I told them, well I'm not freaking buying a car without knowing if I like it or not.

a) way to bump a 5 month old thread
b) what does test driving the car have anything to do with the OP?

For the record, apparently only 300 MS3 were alotted for sale in Mxico for 2008, and I'm assuming they're all 08.5 (mine is).

The colors stated by the OP are the only ones on sale.

And while at the time of the post the car's value was close to 28,000 USD, the current economic climate, which makes the MXN Peso - USD Dollar parity very unstable, you could theoretically get a Speed3 for about 20,800 if the peso is having a bad day.

And while Mazda started operations in this country very recently (about 3 years ago) it's been growing at a good rate. In my town the 3 sedan is probably one of the top selling cars, selling at a similar rate as a VW Jetta.

Yes, I live in Mexico City and recently bought a MSP3!!!!

I got the one with Bose radio.

Man, that just to show how you forget things if you don't use it frequently. All those years of taking spanish and all I got was "congratulations to you" in the first line. Well, at least I think.

Hows life in mexico with one of these? Id think every thief would just be dying to steal it wherever you park it?

Life's not bad at all. My main day to day concern was that the suspension would be too hard for all the bumps/dips/potholes, but it copes very nicely; for my tastes it's just right. Of course I'm going to be careful on where I park my car, but so far I've had no problems other than a bit of vandalism (my car was given a nice black long stripe with a sharpie. Thank God it was a sharpie and not a key, some tar remover cleaned it right up)

Since the car looks just like a regular 3, it doesn't get that much attention, I can only recall 2 times where I got some serious attention (positive). Maybe it's because I'm in the northern part of Mxico and hatchbacks are just not that popular, or that it's not as flashy as other cars that scream "sport" (and that can probably be soundly beaten).

Honestly right now my main concern is being at the wrong place in the wrong time and ending up in the middle of a drug/police shooting. It sucks that my town was fairly safe just 3 years ago.

Que parte de Mexico eres?

The two dishwasher's at my work are from Mexico City. They left b/c of the violence they said. I don't speak much espanol and they don't speak much English, so it's tough communicating.

What area are you from? I have spent about 5 months in Reynosa, Tamaulipas and with all the pot holes and speed bumps the MS3 would be the last car I would want to drive.

I'm from Sonora, just south of Arizona. I haven't been to Reynosa, but all border towns are usually in very bad shape. You'd think that the countries' entry gate would be in better shape, but on the border towns I've been to, that's not the case. Usually you can drive to the next big town and it will probably be in better shape than that border town. I also wouldn't think about spending serious time driving in my border town (Nogales), the streets are rubbish and the drivers are insane, I'm surprised there aren't more lethal traffic accidents.

Border towns usually are very complex, there's so many things going on(good, but a lot of bad); and Mexico City with it's sheer size and huge population is also a very complex place to live.

Right now there is a lot of bad in Reynosa, lots of military and gun fighting. I have only been to Reynosa and Progresso and both had very bad streets. The speed bumps would be the worse for the MS3, I always dragged my rental G6

Actually not, since 2008 every new car has to have a GPS localizer, so they no longer steal new cars, if it gets stolen, the GPS company will trackit and in coordination with the police will go get your car, they have like 95% success. within the first 3 hours.

Yeah, like I said these are very complex cities, because you have the "regular" problems (drugs, prostitution, crime, counterfeit sales, etc) times 2 because you have people trying to "make business" in the other side of the border, and also people on the US doing crime here. Besides that, you have all the people going to cross the border illegally(from Mexico and abroad), plus all the people deported and that are looking for a way to survive. If you add corruption to that mix, things get ****** up really quickly.

But I promise that if you drive past the border things will get a bit better. We still have the Carrera Panamericana going, so the roads are good enough for us to have a big old fashoned road race (wrc) Id like to take the Speed3 through the roads that make up the race, that should be fun...
