I updated this on 3/7/09 after installing the 2nd Generation Dogbone style mount.
Dogbone:

The Dogbone mount is a really nice looking piece. Really nice welds, and very nice powdercoating job.
Install is the same as the 2 piece model.

Need:
17mm + (2, at least 1 that is deep)19mm sockets.
Torque Wrench

Good to have:
Lithium grease
Rubber hammer.

The crossmember side of the mount is pretty tricky to get in. The bushing is slightly larger than the crossmember's space. So that is where the lithium grease can come in handy. It takes some muscle to get it lined up but can be done.

I took off the bracket on the transmission to get the transmission side of the mount in, just saves a lot of headaches wrestling with it. I suppose it doesn't matter which way it goes but I put the nut on the driver's side.

Torqued down both bolts to 75ft-lbs this time.

The vibrations were a little less than the 2 piece so far.

Install was pretty easy once you figure out the best way to put everything back together.

-Good to have a buddy there to help you.

-Have a Jack supporting the tranny next to the motor mount bracket thats on the tranny, not on it (because you will need to remove it)

-Undo the bolts for the Motormount (17mm on both sides)

-Going to have to take the bracket it off to get the motor mount out. 3 19mm bolts. Should have a breaker bar.

-Put the Medieval mount on, with the bracket off still. Put the bolt through the body side and thread it on loosely.

-Put the engine side bolt on. Might need a buddy to help you move the motor around to get it to line up.

-I tightned the engine side down to 80lbs-ft and the body side to about 65lbs.

After you get everything all buttoned back up and down on the ground, start it up. make sure there isn't any weird noises or whatever. Then take it for a ride to see how it is!

I downloaded an iphone app yesterday because I knew I was going to install it today. The app is Seismometer and it acts like a Seismograph. Its not super scientific or anything but it costs $.99 and I wanted to compare the vibrations to stock.

It looks terrible but it isn't at all. Just barely noticeable. The app is pretty sensitive.

The vibrations are barely noticeable at idle like I said. And you can feel vibs a little more when first starting out in 1st or reverse. 2nd gear shift is super smooth, I used to have a tiny bit of trouble when it was cold. Everything else is really smooth as well. Low RPMs (2000 and below) in higher gears like 5-6th there's a bit of vibrations but its mostly just a bit of noise.

Aside from starting out, most of the "vibrations" are mostly resonance from the engine - like it sounds a bit louder and only a tiny bit of vibs.

Overall I have super pleased with the purchase, I was worried because I didn't want to have vibrations in the cabin.

A+

I also encourage other members with different mounts to buy that app for the iphone and place the phone on the center of the dash to record your results. Theres no way to export the data but you can pause the app and take a screenshot (hold the home and then press the sleep button).

We can make a compilation of the screen shots to compare different mounts.

Even if you dont have a stock screenshot, its always good to compare mounts.

Interesting idea. Sport6, for those idle values, did you uninstall the MM then put it back in, or were the tests done on different days? Just looking at the times on the pictures it seems that the order went; stock cold start --> MM cold start --> stock idle --> MM idle.

Be sure to update the thread once the MM is broken in, that should be interesting too.

I didn't take off the bracket while installing mine. I simply moved the engine forward a little by jacking it at a key spot which enabled me to wiggle the stock mount out and the Medieval mount in.

Yeah after I bought the app I tested it on a stock idle on Friday, I started it on Saturday which is the 12:59 picture. then the other 2 were still saturday just later in the day.

I wish these came powdercoated black cuz then I would have to pay dsmotorsports a visit but I think I am gonna be forced to get the su one

Wow, choosing a part like this, which isn't even seen except when UNDER the car, because of the color...

+1, installed the Medieval dogbone yesterday and it is performing great! BTW the mount being replaced was the TRZ dogbone that was just too stiff for my liking. The medieval feels idetical to the TRZ in terms of drivetrain feel, etc but is much more livable for me.

The TRZ is a very well built piece and worth every penny but not the mount for me.

I just wanted to say.. that APP is amazing. Every day I want an iPhone more and more but I know it wouldn't last a week. It would be broken, scratched up, and dead.

can't wait to check it out my convert a new TRZ dogbone user! Good luck with this one sport!

Great write up! I installed mine today. I love it. It's the perfect compromise between performance and NVH. The price is a steal at 50 shipped IMO.

man, took me close to 2 hours to install this mount, what a pain to get it in .i need to start working out or something. i didn't have grease so i used wd40 to slide it into place. that was definitely the hardest part

Hey Sport6,

Why did you change from the 2-piece Medieval to the dogbone? How was the 2-piece holding up in terms of performance and comfort (break-in)?

EDIT: I found your thread about the loose screw problem.

VERY COOL

the exact place to put the phone needs to be established or the data is useless
