MazdaSPEEDING ticket.

after owning my new 2010 Mazdspeed 3 for 2 weeks, i got my very first violation. police said that he clocked me at 78 mph at the freeway. i'm going to drop my mom and her co-worker at work and i was running at the speed limit (65-70 mph).

for a good 5 mins of driving, a guy in a red car was tailgating me (can barely see his headlight on my rear view mirror). so i tried to change lane, turn my signal lights on but none of the driver on the other lane wants to give a space. i thought that if i slowed down, car who's tailgating might hit me. so instead, i stepped on the gas a little bit to the open space so i can change lane. that's where the police probably clocked me. so when we're on the slow lane, looked at the rear view mirror and there's the police with his lights on behind me.

any suggestion(s), tips or any help on what i can do. can i contest this violation? (sad2)

btw, i still love my 2010 MS3 (headbang)

i have had red cars for almost 5 years. no tickets and i do my fair share of speeding. go to court and the sentences are always reduced maybe even eliminated. best way is to prevent it, make sure u look ahead before stepping on the gas next time. good luck

I invested in a nice, overly priced radar detector. But for some reason ever since I've had the damn thing I haven't had a ticket for speeding.

You can technically contest any ticket. But is it worth contesting? Its your word vs the police officers. I was a police officer for like 5 years. There is a lengthy process that you can go through to eventually get your money back though. I wont post it here, just cause its so freakin lengthy, but if you want the info pm me and ill get it to you.

^ it is worth contesting because from all of my friends experience, they have either gotten the fine reduced or it was eliminated because of they couldn't read the writing or something stupid like that. contest it.

I have been pulled over twice in the Celestial Blue, both times for speeding and both times were let go because the cops were more interested in the car than how fast I was going. Both times I was doing 15+ over the limit.

I got 2 speeding tickets in my MS3 last year, and both times I went to court and won. You should definitely contest it. Here are a couple of links to help you fight it!

Could be in most cases, but when I was in high school (a loonnnggg time ago) I contested a ticket where I slid through a stop sign on wet roads and got broad-sided. I got the ticket since I went through the stop. The judge decided to "teach me a lesson" and doubled the fine. Nice.

WOW Aint that a kick in the pants.. Sorry man, OP fight it worst that happens is they reduce it.. Just my .02

In a situation like what you described I always fight it, as long as I have an honest reason. I have gotten out of a couple of tickets including one just recently. Here are some things that will help.

1.) Be honest. First thing that is going to happen is the officer is going to read the account of what happened. It may the the officer who pulled you over, it may be someone standing in. Either way, when they ask me for my side of the story, I don't argue with what the officer said, especially since it is usually accurate. You don't want to inadvertently call the cop a liar, and you cant say you weren't speeding because clearly you were.

2) Dress nice. You are going to a US Court house and appearing infront of a member of law enforcement, and a judge/magistrate. Show some respect. Be polite, professional and honest!

3)You mentioned you had your mother and her friend in the car. Have them write letters of their accounts mentioing the guy tailgating and your attempts to get out of his way etc. Make sure they stick to the facts, and dont bend the truth. The judge/magistrate might tell you hey cant take the letters into consideration for various reasons, but might let you read them any way.

4)Hopefully you have a good clean driving record. If so mention that you are a careful and safe driver. If the ask about any previous tickets that stuck don't lie. Even if its now off your record they can see that it was once there. Be honest.

5)Don't lie about what happened. They see people try and squirm out of tickets all day every day. The best thing you can do is come accross as being honest and straight forward.


I have never gotten out of a ticked from lying about what happened.
