Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

Taking car in monday morning for them to check the clutch. Called the other day and told the service advisor it was hard to engage/disengage and asked about a tsb. He looked it up and said he didnt see anything. Wanted to check it out monday and see if it needed the clutch replaced or any other parts. So I will let them drive it and see what they say. Im taking a copy of the tsb if they try to bs me telling me there isnt one. Only 3000 miles left on the warranty. Wish me luck :)

Might want to be removing the short shifter kit, so they don't give you BS about that....

btw I wanted to ask, cause it looks like you bought the oil filter conversion kit from protegegarage, that I've seen on their site..... How do you like it? I was thinking of getting it cause that stupid cone filter is pissing me off cause sometimes they get crushed....

I will be removing the short shifter, shifter weight, front engine mount, rear engine mount, forge bpv, and the CP-E nano. Looks like I will have a busy day tomarrow.

I like the spin on filter. Makes oil changes super easy. Install was kinda a PIA but wasnt as bad as the front engine mount install. That I will not be taking off for the dealer.

you will need to take it off..... unless you want the chance of them denying it.

the reason simply put is... they have to drop the entire subframe awd system, etc... in order to replace all the components involving the clutch

Removed all the parts today except the short shifter. I couldnt get the factory one back in. Hopefully they wont care.

Its a go!

Took it to the dealer this morning and was kinda slick about it. I called last week and talked to a guy that couldnt find the tsb. So I went in there this morning and talked to a girl and told her my name and that I was here for them to see about doing the tsb and showed her the paper and she put the number of the tsb into the computer. She was cool. She said "this used to be my husbands car" Which is true becuase the previous owner works in the parts department in another building.

She asked if it had less than 50k miles and I said yes 47k. So I handed her the keys and they pulled it back. After and hour and a half another service advisor came to me and says we have special ordered all the parts and that we will give you a call when they come it. We will need the car for 2 days and that they would supply a loaner car for free under warranty.

So I was excited that it was that easy. Even with 47k miles and the short shifter they didnt hesitate. The guy who drove it out of the service shop actually stalled it a couple of times lol.

Good job bro...... and yep, the service guy stalling the car himself should have been proof enough the clutch isn't good.

hey i've been doing some searching on the forums looking for the CLUTCH TSB. I just have a few questions. When the dealership does the clutch TSB do they replace your clutch with the same clutch or a weaker one bc i don't want it to burn out on me 6.gif also do they adjust the clutch pedal as well for you? or do I have to do it myself from the HOW TO section on the forums? Also is it worth getting done or should I just adjust the clutch pedal myself? Let me know your impressions of it 5.gif

Its not the same clutch they replace it with. Its a "modified" clutch. Also they change out the pedal from one with 2 springs to one with only 1. Never heard anything about it being weaker. Only time will tell.

I know the dealer can adjust the pedal to make it lower but its still the same affect of how it is which is off-on. Atleast for me. I adjusted it every which way and putting it back the way it was from the factory seems best.

Taking my car in monday morning to have the TSB done. I will let you guys know how it turns out.

Actually it all depends on the category your car falls under.....

Type A clutch and Type B clutches are different..... Type B does not have the pedal replaced, only the Type A does....

and to answer the guy's other question, they do not adjust the "height" of the pedal at all...... that's a custom thing done/made in the HOW-TO, it's still set at "factory" height, but the clutch grabs a lot easier and even beginner manual drivers won't stall it as much as they would with the non-TSB clutch.

So its not a weaker clutch than the one that we originally had? Has anyone had any problems with their clutch burning out after they got the TSB done? or are their any adverse effects of getting the clutch TSB done?

Nope, I haven't heard complaints from anyone else. I got mine done at about 6200 miles....... and I now have 400 miles til I hit 30,000.... and I have definitely launched hard testing it out a few times.

Unless you're dragging the car and riding the clutch on a daily basis, it should wear like any other normal clutch. Considering my TSB clutch has almost 24,000 miles on it, and I have no issues, I will say I don't regret it for a minute that I had it done.

Did you still have to do the clutch pedal adjustment or after you get the TSB done you don't need to do the adjustment? bc the adjustment looks like a pain to do and I don't want to mess it up.

I replied to your PM bro, I would say to wait after you get the TSB and see if you really want to adjust the pedal. I haven't adjusted mine and I have no issues driving with it (shrug)

Mine is in the shop as we speak. This rental car makes me miss the speed6. No satellite radio! Manual windows and side mirrors. Also no turbo! Its a red 06 mazda 3 sedan. This thing has some torque when taking off but once accelerating on the interstate this thing is weak. Rides damn good though. Looked down and didnt realize I was going 90. lol

I've been there, I had the 2.3 hatch mazda3 when my car was in the shop. Weak as hell when trying to accelerate on the highway (of course I'm use to the speed6 dur me) but it was pretty smooth and I didn't realize how fast I was doing in my community (50 in a 30) rofl

Yes. Since the gauges on the 3 start so much lower than the 6. i.e 0 is straight down instead of towards the left. Im used to seeing the needle much higher so I do stay around 20 over when driving this. lol

I went to the dealership yesterday. They gave me no trouble with the TSB. they said okay and said that the parts would be ready before the end of the week. PLUS: they washed my car too :)
