Mazdaspeed6 Clutch Fix TSB

GOd Dam they just Called me and he said to leave it with him 1 more day!!! WDAaShITF$&K!!!! HE said that it needed 1 more hour of work left and that they wanted to get in a good test drive in. So now i have to wait until tommorrow!! This is delaying me so much... i have my Catback exhuast and Test Pipe rdy to be installed.... Man this adjustment better be worth it!

Just got mine back today...and I love it. It's not so different that it's a new car, but the engagement is lower and more gradual, much much smoother. The clutch is still stiff enough, it does not feel like a ford escort.

One thing I did notice though now is that on two occasions, both on cold starts, I'm getting a whine in the engine. Sounds similar to a steering pump that is low on fluid. I have to check it out, but otherwise I'm very happy that I did the TSB.

yay!!! I got mine back today at 2pm!!! ,,,, holy sheitzz batman.. very nice. its so effortless to use the clutch!! I think a real begginer could get use to it in 30 mins. I am soooo happy to have my car back!! This fix was diffently worth the wait. I get a new o2 sensor out of it too. Shiting gears from 1st to 2nd is soo smooth, and getting out of first gear is no problem at all. You can acutally get it off at 1k rpms!! No like before where it would vibrate like crazy.. I only got to drive it from the dealer back to work. Soo ill test it out some more today when i get off.

.... ooo and i need to install my Testpipe and Exhuast yay!!!

With the new clutch I also noticed the shifting "clunk" is gone when you push the clutch in. This was the reason many were replacing the motor mount but I have yet to feel the engine buck and the car lurch forward since they put in the new clutch. No aftermarket motor mount for me.

i was supposed to bring my car in today, but yesterday i got a call saying everything came in but the pedal assembly which is on back order...he said he'd be calling me week by week until it came in....

That sucks :(

Hey everyone my cars vin number does not fall in range of what the tsb says but I have been experiencing all the symptoms everyone has explained. High engagement, clunk when clutch is put in jumpy from 1st to 2nd and very hard to get into 1st. Sure it's the first manual car i've driven but 2 people who have driven my care with many years of experience have said something feels wrong. So how should i go about getting this tsb done on my car if my vin does not fall in range. Should i take it to the dealer and say im experiencing all of these symptons and want them to install the new clutch?

Seriously......... good luck with that

first off a TSB isn't really a "recall" as Chuyler explained before.... so the dealer doesn't HAVE to perform the TSB.... and the fact that your car is a 2007, I don't see it happening, the Vin range as I've researched are all 2006 cars, I didn't find that a 2007 car was effected by it.... but I wish you the best about getting it done.

I would still take it in though, don't mention the TSB but complain about the clutch. Later on if they say nothing is wrong tell them that you recall the 2006s have a similar problem, a friend of yours took it in and they fixed it. No idea if it will work but its worth a shot.

Since your car is a 2007, your best bet is to go to a dealership that has fixed several clutches already and have a tech drive the car back to back with a 2007 they have on the lot (you should drive both back-to-back also). If they recognize the feel as a faulty clutch they may be able to work with Mazda on getting it replaced but your chances are still slim that they will approve the repair. If they tell you it is fine and it feels just like the other 07 they have. Tough luck. Learn to drive it properly.

In all honesty, I doubt you have a faulty clutch. A true sign of a faulty clutch isn't having friends claim "something isn't right". It is having friends stall the car three times before leaving the drive way. My wife stalled mine twice before she gave it enought gas to launch us over the moon. My friend stalled it three times and then used quite a bit of gas and clutch to get it moving on the 4th time. Now that it has been fixed people say it is a little heavier than usual but manageable. To me it is a dream compared to what it was before.

My point being, the faulty clutches are really bad and you would "know" with out any doubts that something was wrong. Take the car in and see what they say. Drive it for a few thousand miles more and if things don't improve (your driving or the clutch) take it back again.

Quick question, I know I'm not leaving very much time for any answers, but I thought I'd ask.

I'm taking my MS6 in tomorrow to get the key fixed and the clutch replaced. While they are doing the clutch, is it worth it to get the Mazdaspeed flywheel installed at this time? I currently have a CPE exhuast, DP, and CAI. I plan for the FMIC and the EMS from CPE shortly.

Thanks guys, (and gals)

Jim

They won't be able to order it in time for you. I haven't heard back from anyone who did this so I can't comment. All I can say is that the new clutch makes the car way more fun to drive. Running through the gears is much smoother. You don't need a lightened flywheel but if you take the car to the track it may help a little. I don't track my car so I saw no need for it.

Canadians. My Dealer got the TSB today. Parts have to come from USA. I won't be getting it done right away as I am in the middle of a move. At least until mid July for me. To be honest, I'd like someone else to be the dealers "guinea pig" if you get my drift.

Well, if there are still people who are on the fence about doing this TSB because they fear the clutch will be too soft or "squishy", I may have some good feedback when they finish mine in a couple days. I actually like the stiffer feel of the OEM clutch, but relented to doing the TSB because of my wife. I test drove a MS3 a month or so ago and was actually lukewarm about its clutch. I thought it was too soft and a kept me from "feeling" the clutch. So I am starting off pretty sceptical of the new clutch assembly but am trying to be open about it. If I get it and end up loving it then that maybe the info some of you "fence-sitters" are looking for.

BTW, if you haven't looked at the c-pe Standback yet, do. I have a beta unit and it rocks. Pulls hard to redline now!

my car should be done today. got a call friday, from the production line, my oxygen sensor before the 1st cat was cross threaded in, so they had to order new parts for me lol...oh well. should have it back by tomorrow the latest.

I might just be your guinea pig. My dealership will be calling me in a few days when all the parts are in to make an appointment. (yes)

Update:

My wife drove my car with the new clutch the other day. She still stalls occasionally but after driving the Protege5 with 80K miles on the stock clutch I can see why. I've stepped on pillows that had more kickback. Going from that to the MS6 is a huge difference. Anyway, after a day she got the hang of it and said it requires less pressure than the first time she drove it (stock type A clutch) and the catch point was more predictable now than before.

got my car back this afternoon. supposed to get it yesterday but a coolant line cracked/broke that they saw when they got back from a test drive. i got a brand new downpipe and o2 sensors cuz mazda can't put them in from the factory correctly. car runs perfect. clutch engages easier near the floor and it's easier on hills especially. definitely a MUST
