I mean the way i look at it, hate it or love it its still in the family. So you can either embrace it like a loved one, or treat it like a stepchild but its still here lol. For what your going to pay for one, and all the perks you get out of owning it. Its still a darn good deal for a hatch or sport compact.

hatches are around and by all means this car has got the power. im mainly disapointed that they took away the AWD. I think that was a kick in the ass, give it more power with less traction. but frankly like i said earlier, i dont like hatches. their are very few hatches or wagons that pull it off in my mind. GTIs (for whoever it was who mentioned them earlier) are actually great lookin hatches, even tho the newest models arn't too hot. but i wouldnt buy a ms3 for the same reason i wouldnt buy an srt-4. its not nearly as attractive as my MSP. no matter how you dress it up.

The MSP is a looker... no doubt! But I think the MS3 might grow on you.... It certainly has better tail lights! With the LEDs on the GT, they could potentially be some of the better tails I've seen. (I'm sort've weird in the way that's important to me) Much like women, I find the rear of a car to be important. From this view, the MS3 looks pretty damn sweet. Big exhaust, black defuser, aforementioned tails, large Mazda logo.... it just looks slick. The front isn't nearly as good... I seriously dislike the grille and that black strip is ridiculous. floating foglights??? haha what a joke! by comparrison, the MSP's front never ceases to amaze me.. side profile... no contest! hatch vs sedan. nuff said!!
Even with all that said, this car destroys the msp in what should be the most important category... combine that with an awesome interior and an added level of versatility i think most would find a value in... and you've got yourself a nice solid, yet far from perfect, car.
I used to think the same was as you with regard to the absense of AWD.... then I learned that Mazda's awd system basically blows. It's OK for a vehicle like the CX-9 and even the MS6 (assuming the person who bought it isn't interested in performance as much as they safety) but for those who value performance as much (like those in which Mazda is marketing the MS3) its' added cost alone makes it a dubious choice. Combine that with the fact that their system blows (biased towards the front wheels... not nearly as advanced as subaru or mitsu) and, oddly enough, we're lucky they didn't go that route. the car's cheaper, lighter and faster this way... the 'feel' of awd apparently wouldn't have been that much different so... what's the point?

the market of the msp6 is targeted for those that want to go fast in a good quality car...as said by top gear, the msp6 is more of a 'gentleman's evo". For those that are more interested in a good performance vehicle with a really really poor interior, then sti or evo. the msp3 just targets a younger market. a.k.a 17 year olds waiting to stamp themselves into a tree.

Bottom line is, don't be so dismissive of the car because it is not for you. I can understand personal preference. You like the MS6, and I respect that. I like the MS3, and you should likewise respect the fact that others will to. Don't belittle us as "17 year olds", because believe me, I'm not 17.

Mazda did a poor job of marketing the MS6, reason for them still being on the lots. The MS3 on the other hand should fly off the lots.....everyone i run into knows about the upcoming MS3....it should also help sell the MS6 as well. Customers/Parents should be seeing them as they go look at the MS3 with there younger ones.

That may be part of it... but it's not the entire reason. The car's just not as good as it should've/could've been. Most reviews have had it fall somewhere in the middle of the pack. tons of power, heavy-unathletic ride, relatively chintzy/bland interior, awkward styling. for the market they were targeting, this just doesn't translate into a vehicle that's going to sell well.
