Mazdaspeed Test 14 psi .

Vid

Hers a quick vid This one doesnt show it holding 15 psi. It spikes to around 15 holds around 11 12 psi. I may be leaking boost not sure it was holding aound 14 psi but its not now. Feels good were its at now though . When i get it to hold ill post up more vid .

tuned 14psi since june 05 on stock turbo. boosts 15psi up until 5k then drops to 14psi towards redline running 10.5afr @ redline.

i had my car dynotuned back in june. at the time i was running 11-12s but now it runs 9-10.5

Aside from a few irrelevant mods (like a CAI and turbo timer) my car is basically stock. I have a boost gauge (thing tops out at around 6.5 psi) and a MBC (still not installed). Like many of you, I read a bunch of posts that scared the $hit out of me and never bothered to up the boost. This thread is instilling some confidence, however. Perhaps I'll get some colder plugs, give the car a tune-up and set the boost at a conservative leve (8-9 just to see) While I agree that, as long as someone's not abusing the engine, these cars can probably handle 10-12 psi, I doubt I'd be willing to take that risk without something like a unichip.

Anyway, my question is.... approximately how much hp can one expect to gain by upping their boost? 10 hp per 1 psi? More importantly, how much of an increase in performance (overall) should one expect? I'd be interested to know what the avg 0-60/1/4 times are before and after a boost increase of X psi.

man, i can't wait till i can get an exhaust and new IC... i'm a lil scared to up the boost before doin that, cuz don't you need supporting mods before you can safely up the boost??

i'm planning on getting a custom fmic, splitsecond airflowlogistics afc, an exhaust cutout, fcd(not actually sure if i need it), mbc(again, not sure if i need it with the afc) , and try to run 12psi on stock injectors...if it doesnt workout well on the stock injectors, i'll probably run some 440's from a wrx and maybe up the boost to 14psi...what do you guys think?

I tell ya iam not sure how the afc works without having timming retard. Because i was detanating at 9 psi with 5 degrees out . I wish i could have gotten vid of that dyno . I guess it bleeds off in the upper rpms . Be careful .

The motors are still the weaksauce. Your luck and 505's luck are because of tuning. Fuel and timing is the key and because that, you will last longer then with no tuning or fuel only IMO. But yeah, I have been running over 2.5 years on my MP3 at 8psi no more no less and making over 220whp over about 1.5 years of that. Show me another MP3 who lasted that long! It's all about the tuning with any motor really. But like blkzoom said, the load will kill ya when you have too much traction!!!

Well said . Iam for sure impressed so far. Iam fully prepared if it goes to accept my demise of my wife kicking my ass all around this house, but i guess i will deal witht that when the time comes . But for now boost on .(glare)

Haha......werd. My wife would make me do the house work from then on.........but i would then have a forged motor in the works (glare) (thumb)

Yea she would be pissed. Shes kinda mad about the boost being turned up. She rode with me the other day and could tell i did something. I really thing iam going to work on the motor build sometime this year . I would love to take this motor to the max but if it goes and takes soemthing out with it iam screwed . (hah) No no zoom zoom boom boom here . I dont want to mix my rods with my block block .

i have been running 9 psi daily and 11-12 when racing.. it scares me to spike at 14-15 to get the 12psi i want. is there a way to decrese the spike?

Actually, there are a couple of things you could do to stop the boost spiking issues. I just need to know which boost controller you are currently using. Currently, I am using the Greddy Profec Type S. On this controller, it will allow the user to tune the loss/gain of the wastegate. Which is actually the response of the wastegate. I have the loss/gain setting on my MSP on the lowest setting and I have no spiking and the car hold 10psi to redline(which I do not go into).

The only issues I have with the car is that is runs pretty lean before I hit 4500 rpm. As a result, I am forced to accerate on partial throttle until I get to 4500 rpm. Then I could give it full throttle after that point. I could correct the problem with a simple air/fuel controller, but I am saving for something with a little more tunibility, such as the AEM EMS.

Basically, I am just giving you something to consider.
Good luck.
