Mazdaspeed seats???

ive heard of many crashes involving the fake or cheap seats that killed people. occasionally its in the news. i wish i had a link for you but i dont, sorry.

think of it this way....

Would you take out your seatbelts and replace them with long pieces of fabric your Mother stitched together for you? No.

Why take out a stock seat that has been specifically designed to keep you safe in accidents and replace them with products of unknown quality/origin? I can assure you none of the vendors on ebay have the money, facilities, nor desire to crash test any seat they sell.

Sparco, Momo, Mazda all do. They make customer safety a huge aspect of their business. eBay vendors make colored and bold headlines a huge aspect of theirs. You make the call.

i hear ya, clay. i honestly just had no idea there were such regulatory agencies or testing for stuff like this.

eh, of course there is. they do crash testing of everything from vehicle structure to airbag timing/angle and field to trigger deploy/seat structure.

forum is helpful again. truthfully im glad you saw this thread then ken. i would love some inexpensive seats, but ive seen too many stories. then i saw that guy who said someone who was too heavy broke his sliders :omg:

Just say no

i need some education as to why these seats might be any better or worse over another or a generic pep boys racing seat? i'm lost here, honestly - what would you look for that determines quality and usability of a seat

Seat's are just like a helmet. Sure, it fits your head fine but does it have the Snell sticker? When a factory seat or a real name brand, you know that the parts were spec'ed by an engineer that understands metal strength, fatigue, etc. and used a CAD program to add strength points and make sure the mounting and brackets will sustain in a crash. Is the metal frame the correct type of aluminum or steel, or is it just thin walled junk? Computer TIG welded in a $15M factory or just some dollar a day wage 14 yr old overseas doing the assembly? Personnaly, I wouldn't buy anything off eBay unless it was non-attached accessories like air freshner or cell phone holder. Nothing to do with life safety systems such as brakes, engine bits, etc.

just look for someone on the board selling their seats. what kind do you have in your P5? if you have leather, maybe they would trade with you. thanks how i got mine.......

corksport.com has authentic Mazdaspeed seats but unless you're ready to drop $1800 for a pair, I'd say stick with Sparcos.

I spent 8 hours bolting these to the stock brackets, they are more solid than the stock seats, they maintain the stock seat belt, in the same stock location with the same stock mounting hardware.

I'm sorry but I seriously highky doubt that they are more solid than the stock seats. They may feel that way as you're just sitting there but throw a few G's of force in an accident.

Nice seats.......and I'll take your work for it. They look more solid. Very cool.(guitar)

The real Mazdaspeed seats are expensive as hell... last time I checked, probably like 3 grand for a pair.

i still dont understand why someone would by those seats. i mean, i dont mean to knock you, but they are blatently fake. So if you are buying it just for the Mazdaspeed stitching, you shouldve just had some sweatshop kid come over and stitch to your stock seats. *shrugs*

I'm not knocking the purchase.. I like the seats and applaud you for your new toys. I'm just highly against putting my life at high risk any time I'm in the vehicle just for a cosmetic modification.

bah, at 100+mph it ain't gonna matter
I say get them and no matter what don't use the brackets that they come with
I mean in all honesty its the brackets I would think that would fail.
if your a diehard everything has to be perfect person then use different brakets and reinforce the seat brakets that attach the back with the ass part.

Therefore you get a decent looking seat IMO with the safety that you did.
