MazdaSpeed Protege Fitment Q

I don't own an MSP but I'm trying to help a friend out for mutual benefit.....

I have a set of 16X7 Kosei K1 off my Integra-R with an offset of +43mm.

My friend would like to buy these from me but after a little research on my part, I see the 17" RH has a +50mm offset.

7mm is a significant difference, though I know of somebody who uses a 1inch spacer on their P5 rolling on stock wheels + lowered.

I don't know anything at all about the MSP and if it has an entirely difference hub design giving it a wider track to begin with?

For all those wondering why my friend is downsizing the wheel from 17-16? Simple. Tires are cheaper in general + the wheels are lighter, and also my set is already shod with a set of Azenis Sport.

Why don't we simply just throw them on to testfit? Cuz I live about 800miles away!!

Please give me some advice!

Thanks for the info.....!

the tires that are currently mounted on the car wheels are sized 205/55/16.

I suspect my friend will want my Advan A032Rs instead of the Azenis.....

Do you feel the extra height of the sidewall will cause rubbing or clearance issues?

I ran the sizing on a tire calculator and it is virtually the same overall diameter as the OE 215/45/17 RE040s...

I'm doing the same thing but going from stock 17" wheels and tires to 16" Rota Slipstreams 43mm offset with 205/45/16 tires. Shouldn't be a problem.

ARunto...

were you once a member of HT.com?

the tire size you have selected based on my tire calc is quite a bit smaller in terms of overall diameter.... is nobody else concerned about this at all?

I can see the benefit of having a smaller overall diameter acting much like a "poor man's" final drive.... I guess I'm just driven to buy a tire with the same overall diameter as the OE 17"

yup i am a H-T member....I had a all motor DC2 prior to my MSP.

I did choose a tire smaller in diameter. The difference isn't really too much as far as diameter. I'll get better gearing, still keep a lower profile, and get a bigger selection of tire choices by going to 205/45/16 vs. a 205/55/16.

I thought I've seen your username someplace before....!

Have you lowered your MSP at all? I'm wondering since the lower profile will also give the car a lower stance and while this is great for handling and show...the roads where this car will be running will suffer tremendously as a result.... can you say CRATER CITY?

The 17s also, are not suited for this reason as well.....

nope stock height here....hmm i'd go with a 50 or 55 series then if potholes are bad in your arear. :( he should be ok with his car even if he plans on lowering it with 16's.
