2003 Mazdaspeed Protege
Hey, everyone.

Well, today my OEM muffler broke off due to the rust. I was wondering what catback exhaust systems do you guys recommend? I was also wondering if the Protege5 exhaust systems fit the Mazdaspeed Protege as well.

The P5 exhaust is too short, it has to be for a sedan. There aren't a lot of new options available right now, you can always buy a muffler and have a custom exhaust made.

i have a perrin 3in catless exhaust thatll be going up for sale soon.

Another question, I'm thinking about getting the Corksport Power Series 80mm exhaust. My car is stock except for the fmic. Will it bolt on just fine or do I need to make a few adjustments?

Damn...I don't know which one to go with; I can't decide on the 2.4 or the 80mm (3.1). I want some power gains as well as one not so loud since I don't wanna get pulled over and then have a "fix it" ticket. I do plan on upgrading the turbo to a t28 someday. What do you guys advise that I do? btw, what is the "high flow catalyst" option that you can add onto your package on Corksport? I've been doing some research and found that it helps with power and used for smog? Any advice and input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

its a high-flow catallytic convertor. basicly so u can pass for your emissions testing when you go for inspection.

Tanabe makes a great catback for our cars. I've got the Hyper Medallion Tuner series and I couldn't be happier. It's a little loud, and drones at interstate speeds...but I run a test pipe and no resonator...it'd be loud with a stock muffler.

If you don't get the high flow cart from corksport you will get an exhaust with no cat. I know because when I bought it, they told me it would be a cat back, but it wasn't. Shipping it back to them would have cost me $100+ so I just put it on the car, but if I ever have to get the car inspected I will be in trouble.

If your car is stock, the smaller diameter exhaust will be plenty. You won't get any extra power out of the larger one without a lot of other mods. Definitely get the silencer too, the exhaust is very loud. When my stock muffler broke off I was running with no muffler for several weeks. Without a doubt the car is twice as loud with no cat and the corksport exhaust than it was with the stock cat and no muffler.

On a side note, I got about a 5 mpg bump running the exhaust and no cat....

Did you get the 3 inch one or the 2.4 inch one? I gotta get mine fixed since it's just been sitting out there for weeks now.

Damn...I guess I'll be paying for the 3 inch one. I've thought about it for weeks...making a custom one or getting one from corksport. I've just been delaying and it's a PITA. I hope it'll help since I have a FMIC now. Never thought I'd have to replace the exhaust. It's pretty bad...that day when I was driving, it just fell off and I heard a loud clunk and my car just went loud. When I inspected the muffler and pipe where it connects, it looked like it was burnt off...and the metal split.

My stock RB catback is breaking the same way, whole top of the weld between the pipe and muffler is split open. For a mostly stock car I would get the smaller exhaust unless you honestly plan to run a larger turbo and over 15lbs of boost.
