Mazdaspeed motor vs. Protege5 motor

What are the differences between the motors (besides turbo). I bought a motor off ebay with the turbo and intercooler and all the stock charge pipes and air box. I was wondering if I should swap out the whole motor or just bolt the turbo on my motor that is already in my p5. The motors have about the same milage.

you will need the msp ecu for starters. as for the engine itself, it is the same. there are some other parts i believe youll need as well. how much did you pay for it?

Hmmm I would sell the motor if your not going to use it....no use letting it sit around.

They say they are the same motors internally ,but i saw some info that says otherwise so I am not 100% sure.Engine assebly have a different part # from mazda.I dunno for sure.

I have the ecu too. Forgot to mention that. But I have an sportmatic shifter so the ecu wont work with it, or will it? Anyways if it doesnt work I already have someone to buy it.

i would use your own motor, because you know how that's been driven and you really don't know how the other one was driven. like matthew said, get the ECU. if you are buying this motor from a place in hawaii off of ebay, i think that guy told me he had the ECU still as well as the trans. in any case, if its from a junkyard they should have it with the rest of the car.

the ECU will NOT work with the automatic transmission. you might need another way to put fuel into the motor since you wont have an ECU with fuel maps/timing maps to do it for you. (FPR + voltage clamp + pump)

I have everything sitting here in my garage. I have the motor, radiator, intercooler, ecu, instrument cluster, and all stock piping. And yes I bought it from the guy in hawaii, he said he has the tranny but I dont want to deal with a tranny swap too.

Will my ECU from the protege5 not work.

not properly. although the msp ecu is ****** up at least is semi tuned for the turbo setup. Might want to skip that and go standalone (thumb)

I mean, if I just keep my motor in as is and bolt the turbo the ecu will no longer work? That doesnt really sound right to me, cause I know turbo mp3's and turbo protege5's just use the protege5 ecu.

it is not mapped to add fuel under boost. without a voltage clamp to the ecu it will attempt to pull fuel under a rich condition and without a fuel pressure regulator you won't be able to deliver or control the amount of any extra fuel into the system.

the msp ECU doesn't have the needed instructions to "know" how to control the automatic tranny.

yosky, a member of this board kopp0041 has done a msp upgrade to his 2.0ES engine. pm him to see what all he did to get it working. you have the ECU, that is a plus to begin with.

i can tell ya now that tranny issue looks to be your biggest problem because no one has tried it before.

there is no question it will work....but how good/reliable. Don't you want your money's worth?

i say get ATLEAST a piggyback like the eManage or MPI Tuner or go standalone.

no use in half-assing it.
