Mazdaspeed Maf sample sizes.

Hello, I am trying to get a handle on what the I.D.'s are for the maf sensor housings on the various Speed 3 intakes. I am looking for the measurement of the cross section at the maf. My readings are done with the pipes and sensor out. Stock in inches is between 2 5/8" and 2 11/16" so a good bit over the assumed 2 1/2" that has been rumored around here.

Stock: 67mm, 35.24 sq cm, air straightener, (verified)
Mazdaspeed CAI: 67mm, 35.24 sq cm, open tube (verified)
Turbo XS SRI + CAI: 66mm, 34.19 sq cm, open tube (verified)
Cobb SRI: 67.5mm, 35.76 sq cm, air straightener (verified)
BEGI SRI: ?
CP-E CAI: ? air straightener
Injen CAI: ?
HKS SRI: ?
Fajita: ? (Fujita)
AutoExe: ? (Like anyone would pay that much for an intake)

Now I wonder why the MS CAI sets a lean code when used in conjunction with a Standback or why my car didn't get better using the MAF XF scalar.

if they knew what they were doing they would all be the same as stock.
bigger isnt better it just messes up your MAF readings. i would help you out here but i have the MS intake and you already have the size for that.

I run a huge cai, bigger diameter than the mazdaspeed for sure, and my AFR's are fine and i dont have a lean code.

Hopefully not to huge. Laloosh and I saw a .6ish differance between his cp-e and my mazdaspeed at wot. If your bigger your even leaner. But for comparison give me your size I will throw it on the list.

i remember seeing a while back on "the other forum" the ms cai is exactly the same size as the stock tube. if your tubing is anything other than exactly the same size you fuel trims are out of whack. that does not directly mean you will run lean because this car also takes MAP readings, but it will cause a somewhat sloppy transition going in/out of boost.

subs for a great idea.

Nig3, I hope it doesn't happen but I fear you're going to pop your motor one day. Too many non-engineered mods without tuning them in. I hope I'm wrong.

Just picked up a CP-e today, going in tomorow.

Please please please measure the tubes internal diameter at the mass air flow sensor it would be helpful to add to the first post. If you could, please get it to the nearest 16th of an inch.

Why is that crazy!!???
Its a Mazda engineered part...I would expect them to have the best design from all the CAIs/intakes out there...

They designed it specifically for this engine/ECU tune...

Well if there is a minor leak between the rubber pieces, that could cause the meter to be off.

Damnit, I just saw this today...

I'm not sure how I would measure the ID at the MAF housing, seeing as where it is mounted on the intake. I'll take a look and see what I can figure out.

I'm pretty sure that the Mazdaspeed CAI is just a rebadged AEM intake.

First post is edited! MS CAI is STOCK SIZED!!! WTF!!!

Yeah, that surprising seeing how a lot of people have been complaining that the MS CAI has the wrong size MAF housing. Good to know. Thanks for doing the research and posting the sizes. (cool)
