2013 CX-5 Touring FWD
So I was thinking yesterday it would be really sweet if they made a mazdaspeed version of the CX-5. Lower it about 3 inches and put a turbo version of the new 2.5l engine with all wheel drive and a 6 speed manual. Any thoughts?

Sure it'd be sweet but not many buyers. Look at the nissan juke. Sure perhaps its lack of sales is its style...but still.

Mazda is at a critical point with its company it can either succeed or not succeed. They are spending their money wisely to maximize sales.

Given Mazda's challenging financial situation, not a good use of money at all. Even the Juke would outsell it.

^ agreed... i would actually do that before the cx5...

but from everywhere i've seen, the wagon is not coming to the usa... :(

I'd buy a AWD speed6 wagon... That'd be sweet! But I don't see a speed CX-5 coming to market anytime soon. :(

It is already unlikely they will revive the MS6...

Which is far more heartbreaking than the near impossibility of a MSCX-5.

The 3rd gen 6 appears to be ripe for Mazdaspeeding, considering its significant drop in weight, stiffer chassis and other design features.

they cant even offer a MTX CX5 with leather.. or in any real color. i dont see them going even deeper into that territory when there already trying so hard to turn away the MTX customers.. :(

I wanted a crossover SUV when I shopped the CX-5 (not a wagon or 5 door hatch), some kind of sport upgrade option would be nice.

I think ANY Mazda6 wagon would be sweet. I wouldn't even think of a MS6 version of the new car anytime soon.

for us we were looking for a wagon while shopping for a new car to replace the Outlander, but those are almost impossible to find in Canada-US (thanks to you guys in the US, apparently you don't want them ;) )

The Subaru Outback was an option, but what I wanted was a Legacy wagon not a car to go offroad....don't need such tire clearance. We settled for another SUV, but a smaller one. The CX-5 fitted the bill, we are pretty satidfied so far, but my original goal was to go back to a car with good cargo space not an SUV...

In europe there are tons of really nice ones...

anyway I really hope Mazda bring the Mazda 6 wagon here, I have high doubt on that, but I am still crossing my fingers. I don't need the speed version either. But a manual tranny on a GT version would be nice.

If there is so much damn interest in a 6 wagon, why did you guys snatch one up the first time around?
The reason they don't want to bring the gen three 6 wagon stateside is because the first gen wagon sold like...5.

Well Canada is not the problem for interest in wagons...... here we get what the US decides we get... that is our problem!

There is no lack of interest here for wagons! I got 2 wagons before the Cx-5...2 subarus, I just need AWD for our winter. The first 6 wagons was nice, but there was better option at the time like the Legacy wagon....either of those don't exist anymore.

anyway, enough OFF topic, this was about a mazdaspeed cx-5....don't think this will happen.

Wagon versus SUV in the US, it's obvious which configuration sells best in the huge US market. No surprise the new CRV, Escapes, CX-5, Rogues sell much better than wagons and even the Subie Outback has turned into a SUV (from a wagon). The Mazdaspeed the OP was talking about was the CX-5 crossover SUV.

Wow, that's a surprise. Mazda is kicking butt on the sales charts in Australia, and doing so without the assistance of government or fleet sales!

One of the reasons I purchased a CX5 is for the comfort that the tall tyre sidewall of the 17 inch model provides.
Once you move above the base model in passenger cars today, the tyre profile is too low for Australian surfaces.
Otherwise, purchase a Mazda6 wagon. Only in the absence of such, would a mazdaspeed CX5 make sense.
