Mazdaspeed CAI for the MS3

I was reading the instructions for the Injen intake for our cars and it requires to remove the bumper cover!!!!!(boom06)

Is the same required for the Mazdaspeed Intake?(huh)

Why can't you just remove the wheel well splash guard?

I had mine installed by the dealer before pickup and they just removed the wheel well lining.

Don't know about the Injen one though..maybe it's shaped/bent a little different requiring this? (loser)

when you're looking at dynos i think one thing to keep in mind is if the hood was closed. If it's closed, the SRI is gonna have warmer temps almost for sure. At something like 35mph, intake temps for short ram = ambient, but I would think it would be hard to simulate driving at 35mph on a dyno. the short ram is gonna have a disadvantage after sitting awhile, it will be hot in the engine bay, but once you are moving and up to speed it should make no difference

Got my intake in the garage awaiting install... I'm actually wait for my Injen prefilter to arrive so I can install everything together...

Any words of caution concerning the install...?

i installed my MSCAI without removing the bumper if it is shaped the same way as ours you wont need to do that.

The instructions I've seen online say you don't need to remove the bumper. Every CAI I've done I've been able to go up in through the wheel well. According to Protege Garage, I should have mine in sometime this week, if I do its going in Saturday. I'll try to do an how to thread with the MSCAI.

try the cob sri...real easy to do, not as much gain but you'll get the whoosh sound

i just read the MS CAI instructions and there is no need to remove the bumper... Though, the Injen/Fuj...something or other ones you do...Weird...

Anyway, mine is going in Saturday morning along with a full fluid change!!!

I installed my MS CAI without removing the bumper. Its not terrible, but at one point you need to remove a plastic piece that secured by a bolt located in the front bumper area. It was a pain, but I was able to reach my arm in underneath and remove it. It sure beats taking off the whole bumper I'm sure.

I think i figured out the differences between the MS and Injen instructions.

The MS CAI doesnt have you remove the scoop that is right behind the grill, in front of the radiator. Injen does. I think that the scoop helps force air into the wheel well better than if its removed. However removing the air director that flows the air up towards the stock intake box was necessary. Just my 2 cents.

Mazda gave me a 500.00 credit to use at the dealership, and I am considering using this to purchase a MSCAI, however I have seen a few hydro locked engines in my time and I am pretty concerned about it. Should I not get one at all or should I peace in the fact that Mazdaspeed designed a quality piece with these things in mind?

Also are the filter covers actually effective for preventing water from entering the intake?

I installed mine yesterday and no, you don't need to remove the bumper or anything like that...

Basically you completely remove the stock air box, undo the bottom engine cover and the front wheel well splash guards. You have to remove some air deflector that is inside the fender and then just install the MS CAI...
Oh, and they have you relocate the fuel pump resistor (2 bolts; easy)...

My only frustrating step in this whole install was positioning everything so its in-line with the connections and not rubbing on anything. Not really frustrating, but time consuming...

After all was buttoned up, I took her out for a test drive...
All I have to say is WOW!!!! I've never had an intake drastically improve a car like this!!! My MS3 is a wild out of control beast now... Man, I thought she was powerful in stock trim...but after the intake... DAMN!!!

No traction in first and half of second during WOT...and I'm not trying to spin tires on purpose... I also leave all the controls on (DSC)...

This is really a worth while upgrade!!! Everyone should buy the MS CAI...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!!!!!

Next upgrade is the dog bone... If all this power could be instantly transfered to the wheels instead of flexing the engine...it would just be a crazy ass ride!! LOL

I just installed the CAI yesterday. Took me about 3 hours because the stock tube was a pain to get out and the air director was an ass to get out cause of the one stupid nut. But the installation was fairly easy.

In the end, it's worth the 30HP and ~20TQ I've been feeling!

Its awesome!!! The car basically lights up the squiggly line warning light solid on first and second...you feel the tires fighting for traction on third.

I love this mod!!!!!

This is no joke. I just purchased the car a week ago, joined the forum and read a bunch of the posts on the MS CAI. I installed one this afternoon. These instructions really helped (thanks). Man what a difference. I had exactly the same experience from 1st-2nd. The sound is incredible too...
