Mazdaspeed CAI, SRI, CPE for the MS3 versus exahust

For you MS CAI for the MS3 out there...can you tell me if the CAI overpowers the sound of the stock MS3 exhaust...?

I like the MS3 stock exhaust!! It has the perfect balance of quietness and sporty sound. After years of driving a modified Miata, I am enjoying and appreciating the mellowness of my stock MS3 exhaust...yet its has a slight muscular tone... (thumb)

I'm basically wondering if during WOT, the sound of the CAI over-bares the exhaust...

Does anyone know if the COBB or CPE exhaust have the same noise ratio (intake:exhaust)...?

For now, that's the only mod I have. If you are in the car with the windows down, you can hear the CAI in the first three gears pretty easily. If you have the windows closed, you don't hear it nearly as much.

If you have the windows down, you also hear the exhaust pretty well. I love keeping my windows down to hear both :cool:

Back to your question about if it will overpower the exhaust sound....no, not at all. Get the intake and enjoy both sounds
 
Ooh, I don't know if I like that... In the video, there is too much intake noise compared to muffler sound... When I first got my intake on my Miata and I had no exhaust, it sounded like your Hondas out there...all intake sound, no go... LOL

Not that our MS3s are no go...but a balanced sound between intake and exhaust is required...

Does anyone know if the COBB or CPE exhaust have the same noise ratio (intake:exhaust)...?

I dont get it.
I could hardly hear my intake at all on my old integra, until I turbo'd it that is.
I dunno why everyone thinks they need to go around and make fun of honda all the time. Theyre great cars, as well as great platforms.

The cobb exhaust is about the same loudness as stock. I think it was like 1 db quieter at idle, and like 2 or 3 at full throttle or something like that. Very quiet for an aftermarket exhaust.
 
I'm not really making fun of "Honda" per say... But all the Hondas I've seen on the road are ghetto fabulous!!! Unpainted body kits, big fat coffee cans for mufflers, loud at hell, yet they go no where... Cheesy neon lights, etc... List goes on and on... I have never--where I am from--seen what I can a respectable modified Honda... I've even seen turbo ones that couldn't keep up with my NA Miata... Sad, very sad... All I've ever been exposed are to half worked on, half asses Hondas...

The only Hondas I've seen that are WOW are in magazines.... lol

Anyway, this is not a Honda bashing or anything like that thread...

All I am asking is that upgrading the intake on a MS3 that is completely stock will it make it sound all intake...??? I'm sure you (general population) know what I am talking about...???
 
The intake will make it quite a bit louder, you'll hear the wooshing and spooling up of the turbo.

One thing I'm unsure of is the begi box. from what I can tell when I look at it, is that it leaves pretty much the stock plumbing, but changes the filter and the box, making it a little more pleasant to look at. I will try to let you know sometime next weekhow it changes the sound, I'm going to go going up to the shop where they made it.
 
It should be louder. I've always been under the impression that at least with boosted cars, a proper set up will always be louder on induction side than on exhaust side.
 
Hey, I am in Tampa...if you really wanna hear how the MS CAI sounds, come to Tampa and I will take you for a spin. Seriously, it's not AT ALL a deal breaker when it comes to the sound. Oh, and it's not "ricer" even though I am not sure what a ricer intake would sound like. Exhaust on the other hand....
 
my CAI overpowers my exhaust and im missing a cat. but i love the power gains from the CAI too much to revert back.

I've been reading how the Cobb intake and other short style intakes are decreasing horsepower in the lower RPM range and increasing in the high RPM range...

Is this the same case with the MS CAI?

The more I'm reading about intakes, the more I see short style intakes add an extra 10hp in the top end... While, I keep seeing claims of 25hp for the MS CAI... What gives? Is this accurate...?
 
there are dynos showing a 25 hp increse with MS CAI and its all over the power band not just a peek.
 
probably since in the lower rpms, you are travelling slower so the SRI is just sucking up engine heat.

In the higher rpms, you are going faster which puts cooler air higher up in the engine bay and the SRI can at that point take advantage of it.

The CAI is down by the front bumper so even at lower speeds/rpms, it's getter cooler air.

I think this advantage is generally balanced out at highway speeds.

On another thread, somebody did this test and found the air temps to be the same after a few minutes going 65mph on the highway. A lower speeds, the CAI had a pretty decent advantage.
