MAZDASPEED 6... It's Coming (old)

he didnt happen to say turbo or supercharged did he?....plz plz plz turbo.
I thought it was based on the Supercharged Jaguar setup? I also thought the RX8 was going to be supercharged too. Motor Trend stated they couldn't wait for the supercharged RX8 but that may have been a figure of speech.

depedns from which point of view.

I live in quebec. We just got like 20 inches of snow in the last month. I dont wana have to have 2 cars because of the winter. so powerful RWD car = a big no no for me right now. Cool AWD car would be the bestness.

when i'll make 200k a year and move to california, then i'll start thinking about a nice FD or something like that =)

Good point, I'm talking from a pure racing/handling standpoint. AWD does offer good functionality, though.

I can't imagine how $$$ a Mazdaspeed 6 will be.

What's so unbelievable about a 280hp from a 4cyl? The Mazda3/6 engine was built with boost in mind was it not? Remember all their tech's saying it had "amazing untapped potential?"? And since thy've alredy done it with the mps....

Should be interesting, and if I had the money, I'd sign up for it today.

last tiem i checked the evo was puttin out 271hp and it wa sonly at 2.0L...that euro sepc mps6 car has 2.2L......the question will have to be if mazda wants to outshine the rx8 like that...the evo and sti are makin good sales form what i heard...mazda may wanna jump in on the market too :) in either case.....it would be a nice car :)

U know what sux about this whole deal is that a MPS6 putting out 260+ HP would sell much better than any RX8 ever will. Why? Simple: utility. Yeah, I want to be able to have 4 real doors, a nice sized trunk, and good fuel economy and some powah.

For this simple fact, they should bring over the MPS6; no matter what, no matter how powerful they make the RX8, the RX8 will never be a high volume vehicle...

200% right on that one

If it was like the Prez of MazdaUSA, I might believe it, but you should know that sales reps are almost always unreliable.

Mazdastuff might have an MS8 section, but the MS8 isn't coming because it's just an aero kit & suspension. All of that stuff is already available, so I don't think that really means anything.

Hi, I'm new. Here's some facts.

1. The Mazdaspeed 6 does exist, but only overseas. (hell, it was in C&D last month)

2. It does make 280hp... which just happens to be the legal limit in japan.

3. That kind of hp IS realistic from a 2.3L that normally produces 160hp. Japan is full of high output turbo 4 bangers; where the emission laws and crash regulations are lower. Cars like the Subaru Legacy B4 (also 280hp), Nissan Skyline, and of course--the recently introduced here--Subaru WRX and Mitsubishi EVO.

4. The car IS awd. It is NOT built on the X-type platform. Where the hell did that come from? The X-type is based on the outgoing Ford Mondeo platform. There is no relation between the 2. In fact, Ford plans to release it's own car based on the 6 platform that will sell both here and abroad (maybe the next mondeo and X-type).

5. Most likely if a version of this car comes here it would not *bump* the RX-8. The RX-8 is a sports car. The 6 is a sedan. While Subie and Mitzu have tried to blur the 2, there is still a difference.

6. Not like the RX-8 is a big seller anyway...

Also, if a mazdaspeed 6 DOES come here it will most likely not be a 4. more likely a hotted-up version of the Duratech based V6 currently powering the highend 6's. It would likely retain the awd. BTW, years ago ford had discussed ideas for bringing back my beloved SHO as a Turbo V6 AWD monster, but obviously decided against it. Oh well, but the MS6 looks to be the closest thing we'll get to a cheap, high-output, mid-size sedan that can out-class a beamer. damn.

Heh, he was right in the end. They are bringing it back, but it's flipping hideous.

I find it amusing that people doubted it was possible to get 280HP out of a 2.3l turbo, when in Europe at that time Mitsubishi were already selling the Evo FQ400, which had 400HP out of a 2.0l turbo.

I have to second this comment - in print, the new SHO looks HORRIBLE. Automobile details it this month - only has a slushbox - albeit with slap shifting paddles... woohoo... I wish I could get excited.

However, I did have to chuckle - I saw the thread title and thought that it was referencing a 2nd Gen MS6. I did not notice the date at first. It is a good read though!!!
