Mazdaspeed 3 problems/troubleshooting thread

I had the brakes on my Speed3 warp after 1300 miles.

I know what it was from too. At least I have an idea. Hot rodding around Texas, with big straight aways to each light, and coming to a quick stop stressed them out pretty good. I could feel the warpage start to happen.

It got worse on my way home from Texas to California. Coming over the mountains after El Centro. Braking to slow down; steering wheel would vibrate, and brake pedal would vibrate too. Told the dealer that my car had vibration issues, and that I just got my car a little over a month ago (back in September) and it vibrates when I come to a stop. Took it in, and they turned the disks for me, and evened out the brake pads.

No other problems as of yet. If they do, I'll post it here.

to comment on fourthmeal's last post, the point of this thread is not to get an answer to my specific problems. instead, it is to see what everyone has had problems with.

mainly, if everyone seems to be having similar problems, it may be brought up to mazda to see if a general update/recall may be done to remedy the problem.

the last thing i mean to do is (deadhorse. ha, i love these icons.

Soot ...

a VW thing for sure. i've noticed a large amount of black "soot" around the exhaust tip, so I figured it could be a coolant sensor/running rich problem.

btw, great signature

The soot is a "feature" of the direct injection. Take a looksie: http://bznotes.wordpress.com/2007/01/14/soot-emissions-from-gasoline-direct-injectin-gdi-engines/
(They talk about regulating the output using filters)
The DI makes almost as much particulate as a diesel engine!

Oh, no issues here.

Only issues Ive deal with:
1. Set of TSB/Recalls for 07 models
(Engine mount, reflash ECU, throttle valve thingy)
2. CEL due to bad purge control valve

Im getting 24 MPG under LA rush hour traffic and a lead foot
As for suspension noise: None

Its in bad need of allignment after 11K miles but I suspect that was due to my niece when she was driving it than an issue with the car itself...(think she hit parking cement barrier with left wheel)

Read it fully - thats only true in stratified conditions where its running lean and injecting fuel late - I suspect our DISI engine is running in homogenous mode which interestingly enough does produce twice the soot as a port fuel injected engine but only when warm... in extreme cold the DI produced half the soot.... interesting read nevertheless - thks for the link... makes me wonder if we are REALLY running rich as most think or its just a fact of the DI and we are actually running stoichoimetric A/F.... I apologize for the digress on the thread....back on topic:

Add one more:
1. having to buy a ground loop isolator if wanting to charge the ipod at the same time its being listened too... crappy isolation from factory lets alternator whine come through on AUX port

Understood. I just felt as if the posting was heading towards CAI's and SRI's, and all that. We've got enough of those threads! lol.

The only issue I have had is the windshield cowl rattle that others have mentioned (http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123685785&highlight=cowl+rattle)

I took it to the dealer and was fortunate enough to talk to a technician who was great. He completely took off the cowl and said he increased the spacing with shims on the cowl and foam tape. I am not sure exactly what he did but if you have this problem try telling the dealer what it is and hopefully they will deal with it. Mine is 100% fixed and I love it! There is nothing more annoying than a constant rattle that you cannot get rid of.
