MazdaSpeed 3 in the news?

i guess we can only wait, and hope......
Tell me about it. I'm torn between the 3, the TSX and the G35s. If the 3 was 200 HP+, I wouldn't even hesitate. Personal preference for small, light cars, but man, if this car had even 40 more HP, it would just own.

You're confused between the 3, the TSX, and the G35s? Yea, I'd say you're confused alright!

If you can afford a G35, get that. Unless of course you're not looking for a luxury sedan. The G35 is in a different class my friend. Not the same kind of vehicle at all. As for the TSX, well I guess you'll just have to try it and compare it to the 3. I personally don't like the TSX, even with the extra horsepower. Besides, the TSX also isn't in the same class as the 3.

I think you have to determine what you're looking for in a car before debating between different models. It'll be easier that way.

yeah...im considering getting either a Porsche Boxter S or a Hummer H2. ;)

ummm...no.
but seriously...totally different classes of cars. i agree...if you can afford the G35...the choice is obvious.

If that is true....

240 hp, turbo, in a 3? I will be losing money but trading my 3 for the speed version as soon as it is advertised.... UAU, 240hp? Can't wait. can't wait... (outie)

me too on the three

i too would trade in my 3 week old 3 for a MAZDA3 Speed in a heart beat, i would lose some money but i would make that up in SPEED!!!!!!!!!!!!! 240 hp would be CRAZY!!! even 200hp would help!! so many possibilities with the turbo!!!!!
shag' (wink)

yes...turbolag does suck. however, chances are the car will have a small sized turbo if the power is only going to be boosted up to 200HP. with such a small turbo, lag will be minimized...possibly almost un-noticeable. bring on the turbo!

I still prefer all motor. I like lots of low end torque for scooting around town.

Yeah it most likely will be a good one to wait for, sucks that i already bought my 3 though. Cause when it comes out i dont think ill have too much paid off on it so my trade value will not be that good. But thats ok, i might wait a year after the Mazdaspeed 3 comes out, to get reviews on it and what not. Althought for a first year car the 3 is a damn good car for its value IMO.

out of curiosity...what kind of car do you drive?

one of the main advantages to a small turbo is the instant-on power i was referring to. little turbos also create gobs of low-end torque. my lil GTI puts out 174 ft/lbs from 1950 RPM on. that is plenty of torque for scooting around town in a car that weighs just 2950. its all about matching the right sized turbo to the car for what you want. if your only expirence is an aftermarket turbo-kit on a civic that is built for high-boost, then yes...you will expirience A LOT of lag.

I just have yet to to drive a car with a turbo that I liked. I don't claim to know everything...but I have yet to like any turbo... Even my buddies turbo TT.... I like something with a lot of torque like the spec V. I don't own one because I have heard some horror stories about reliability but as far as fun to drive I gotta say that car is what I like. If I could have that torque with the handling of a Protege then well... I would be a happy camper!!! I own a protege currently..it has been a great car but I want something with more zoom zoom. So I am researching cars to purchase. I drove a Lancer Ralliart yesterday. Pretty impressive but I am waiting to see what the mazdaspeed3 brings. I will give it a chance but I really doubt I will like it as far as the turbo thing goes. However I might just be pleasantly suprised.....

the Audi TT with the 225HP 1.8T engine has lag issues. the reason is because they unfornuately decided to run dual side-mount intercoolers when they upgraded the turbo from the KO3 sport to the KO4. the allows for pressure drop and there is a huge amount of intercooler piping vs. the GTI 1.8T. all that tubing leads to some lag.

The Spec-V's and SE-R's? yeah...they perform really well. i auto-x a lot and they are almost always at the top or near the top of DS and STS. i never did drive one when i was considering cars to purchase because they just seemed cheap looking to me. the interior was tacky...but the car does well as an enthusiasts car.

since i purchased a new car i haven't been out and about looking/diving anything recently. i read a little bit about the ralliart lancer and it seemed to have a decently torquey engine and fair underpinnings.

i feel your pain about wanting more speed...my last car left me begging for more in a straight line. not only that...it couldn't handle corners either...it was pretty much the perfect first car i guess. i really couldn't get in any trouble with it. that being said...at least you have something to be happy about with the protege. i mean...at least you can tackle the twisties well. and i understand you not wanting to commit your money until the ideal combination comes out. hopefully...the MazdaSpeed 3 will be that car.

Take it from a current WRX owner, the last thing you want on the 3 is a big glop of turbo lag.....and corresponding cruddy low end torque. I drove a 3 hatch 5mt today. I'm seriously considering giving up 70+hp and 4wd from my lightly modded WRX in exchange for a car with good throttle response, power delivery, steering, ride, lateral grip, amenities, etc. etc. The lag on my WRX (and it is definitely sharper than stock, with cat-back, samco intercooler hoses, K&N drop in filter) is moderately bad, but low end torque is mid-80's 4cyl. Datsun pickup bad.
That being said, when I read it might have 200hp, that would be acceptable. That would hopefully mean a low-pressure 2.3L. If it ends up being a 240hp big boost 2.0, no thanks. Not even with 4wd.
