Mazdaspeed 3 CAI ?

i just stopped at the local mazdaspeed dealer parts counter and at first they told me they didn't have any CAI cuz mazda hadn't released the new one yet. i told them they might need to update their thinking process and few minutes later they checked some numbers and discovered that they could stock them now (duh). they priced one out to me at $335, which is $64 less than the mazdausa website....interesting

sounds like a good deal! i think i paid about that for my original issue ms cai

Are any of you proud new owners planning on the following:

- adding a fuel-controller or ECU re-program (Cobb Access Port or equivalent)?
- having a before/after dyno run just for fun?

(yes)

I don't have a dyno, but I gained 5-6 mph on the drag strip with the MSCAI. A friend of mine had exactly the same results with an Injen CAI (which we documented with video).

Very few mods can give that kind of kick at the big end for as little money and effort.

so, I'm curious 5-6 mph took you up to what top-speed for the 1/4 mile and how much time to do it?

and all you added was the MSCAI? No change in fuel/timing maps?

cool stuff...

Bone stock except for a CAI = 13.6@106.7, from low 14s@100-101. Adding a motor mount and drag radials it went 13.0@107. Going with a little shorter tire in the spring and fully expect to see low 12.9x, high 12.8x. Then I'll turn the boost up a little. ;)

The guy with the Injen hasn't quite matched my street tire ET, but he's gone 13.8@107. Here's the video of before and after - http://videos.streetfire.net/video/CAI-on-a-Mazdaspeed-3_205111.htm

Thanks for the post!
It's awesome to see the little 2.4L takin on that really loud "snot-rod" on the strip.

I like to ask everyone this because everyone has a slightly different technique, but since those are some pretty good times, I'm curious how you/he got 'em.

any tips on shifting with the stock tires with this set-up?

that is awesome and sounds discounted. Is that shipped? Sometimes the dealerships will tell you they dont stock it so they can hit you with paying for shipping. They are nice though and lining up the straightner isnt to bad.

Judging by the photo, it doesn't appear to sit down very low. Maybe less chance for hydrolock this time?

By the way, anyone know what kind of #'s you can expect by putting an intake on a RX-8? I'm sure it's not much but I'm just curious because I might get the new RX-8 R3 mainly for the handling of course but a bit more power would be terrific.

I just realized we're neighbors; I'm over in Brownsburg, work in Indy. Once we thaw out a bit, I'd be more than happy to show you. The strip opens in April and you're more than welcome to try the "sticky shoes."

Rather than wander too off topic, I'll just point to a couple of other posts in the "quarter mile" thread (one for street tires, one for drag radials):

For the Canadians:

I ordered the CAI for my MS3 from a local Vancouver Mazda dealer a little over a week ago and they called me today saying it was in from the States. Here are the pics of it below:

OK I bought the Mazdaspeed CAI in early 2008 and dealers charged me one hour labor to install it. I never heard of a recall for the old CAI or had any problems with it. I even drove in the rain went trough puddles lots of times and everything was still fine. Should I have them replace it with a newer MS3 CAI???

No you should be fine, just order the air flow straightener from one of the many places, like the rpm store or SU and you will have the same exact CAI intake as the new one. This picture shows the new part.

ditto, that's what I did. I bought a flow straightener for about $12, installed it easily. My car gained about 37 hp. jaykay about the power.

I just got mine in Calgary. (They also brought it up from the states.) Too bad it was -20 all bloody weekend, I'll have to wait until next weekend to install it now.

Can't wait!

A little off topic but relates to mazdaspeed cai's....I am about to buy a used mazdaspeed cai which "supposedly" comes with all the nuts/bolts/ & other tidbits....is there a sheet of paper that tells you what all should be included in the boxed package that you guys got....if so, can someone take a picture or scan it and send it to me.

I just don't want to buy a used intake and find out that I have to scrounge around for little parts.
