mazda5 catalytic converter

I have to say the 5 has 1 catalytic converter. After all it's a 4 cylinder single exhaust setup. probably aslo has 1 o2 sensor, but I couldn't say for sure

I'm pretty sure that all OBD2 cars are required to have one oxygen sensor upstream and one downstream in order to detect if the cat is working properly.

According to Mazda, there are two, maybe 3? The third in the middle could be a resonator, but I've never seen one off a car. Off of a 3, yes, and that car has two. But the one that matters is the first one right off the manifold (part of it, in fact), because the up and downstream o2s are right there.

That seems really odd I've never seen a 4 cylinder car with 2 cats,. Are Mazda engines that dirty? Usually when people think there are 3, the reality is there is a catalytic converter, then a "resonator" then a muffler.

I could be wrong, but the 5 would be the first car (4 cylinder) I've ever see with more than 1 catalytic converter

Anyone have a picture of the underside of a mazda 3 or 5? or better yet an online copy of the shop manual?
