low quality compared to what....just over industry average.....yeah maybe slightly lower quality then toyota or honda...but look at some of the other names that are even further down the list...mercedes, volkswagon, ford, dodge..some big names there.....and besides mistu is even lower on the list with almost 50 more problems per 1000 cars......just my 2 cents

When was the last time you heard somebody refer to a mazda as rock solid?

I do recall several times growing up hearing about how honda and toyota made cars that lasted forever. My brother had a little 5-speed Hatchback Tercel (1982) that had over 300,000 miles on it. We used to drive it through the woods along dirt trails.

He finally killed it when he was replacing the waterpump and broke off a piece of the engine block with too much force on the wrench. He put some "Liquid Weld" on it and it held for quite a while before he finally had it towed to the junkyard.

Everyone should have at least one if not many first cars that they don't care about. My first car was free, I would beat the crap out of it, and I also learned quite a bit about car repair along the way.

The JD Power study looks like it takes an agreggate of all the cars for the automaker.
But not all cars are created equal. I wouldn't buy an 02 Nissan Sentra Spec V over Mazda 3 just cuz Nissan is a bit higher over industry average.

so~ to those who alreay own a mazda 3~
do u find any minor problems on ur 3 so far?
plz share~thank u!

No problems with mine, but I've only had it one month. I personally wouldn't buy any Mitshubishi. My .02 My hephew has owned several Honda's and he's had nothing but problems with the brakes and transmissions.

New to the Mazda 3 as is everyone else ...

I wouldn't worry about reliability too much with the coverage that's given under warranty nowadays. The problems incurred on most cars are the fault of the driver anyway.

No problems with mine as of yet.

Also, the decision can only be made after driving both cars, checkin prices, and opinion on style. Personally, the size of the 3 was what I needed, it is far more unique than the ralli, and the performance is up to par with the industry average.

Uh...everytime I open my mouth. I have a 95 protege with 235,000 miles on it and it still runs great. No problems at all. I own 3 mazdas now so....... I think that mazda people just don't blab about how great their car is like Honda people....

Dunno, my honda is on the stock clutch and tranny. Was boosted from 129,000 to about 177,000 miles (about 45,000 miles total) and the clutch still grabs great. My next car will either be another honda (RSX) or a Nissan (350z)

ok personally i really wouldnt be to big on both for the simple fact thier both new to the market...and many of the problems on eaither car will more then likely pop thier ugly heads up with in the first year if times not a factor then id wait till next years modle or get a car that has been out a couple of years....just my opinion so you can take it or leave it (scratch)

Reliability has been excellent so far.
But it's really hard to say. Who knows if there's a possibility of a recall in a year or so?
But so far, things look good.

Mitsubishi

I have had a 1998 Mitsubishi Galant for over 3 years (103k miles) and can't wait to get rid of it. Although I have had very little mechanical problems, there have been quite a few cosmetic and other problems:

1) Major paint problem. I have little paint left on the room, trunk, qtr panels and its starting to come off the hood and doors. I know have a white haze. I waxed the car when I first bought it (used in Nov 00 with 43k miles) but once the paint problem developed I stopped. It is a problem on a lot of 97-98 black galants. I have even seen it on newer Galants. Mitsubishi denies responsibility.

2) FM radio stopped working on stock deck with about 95k miles.
3) radio antenna won't go down.
4) Lots of creeks and rattles in car.
5) Resale value is in the toilet. One of the worse resale values manufacturers on the market.
6) Engine knocks quite a bit! Lots of noise coming from the engine. I have heard of people replacing the transmissions several times on there galant. My dad's 99 camry is silent at 123k miles. Still sounds brand new.

I know there are other problems, but these are just a few. The car is 6 years old, but the paint and problems on my mom's 275k mile 92 Corolla are far less than my Galant.

Needless to say, my next car will be between the Corolla and Mazda 3. I am not at all concerned with the quality of Mazda. I think they are great cars. I am going to test drive both cars tomorrow. I will NEVER buy another mitsubishi again. My brother has a 98 Eclipse, the sunroof leaks!

Good luck with your decision. Stay away from Mitsubishi!

They got eibach sportlines for the Mazda 3?! *GASP!!!*(spin)
WHERE?! WHERE?!

I drove a ralliart before I picked up MZ3 today and I thought that it handled good but the shifting felt almost as bad as the Tiburon's. It wasn't hard to find the gears but the shifter felt like it was really stiff. Very litttle movement from side to side. I guess that could be good or bad but I did not like the way it felt at all. I also can't beleive that they charge $1,700 for the sun and sound package. Oh well, MZ3 lives!!!! Pour out a little liquor for my dead MazdaSpeed.
