Mazda3 or Tc?

So you all know I have the white Mazda3 lowered, intake, and exhaust....I'm thinkin about trading her in next month for a Scion Tc. The S/C Tc. 200hp Supercharged 2.4l DOHC VVT-I. Yaaaa baaby!! So what do you guys think? Yay? or Nay?

I think if you go and try to trade in your Mazda 3 next month you are gonna get ass ***** on a trade and will either lose your down payment or even more. If you didnt put anything down you will owe money on your car. Dont do it unless you can get rid of the 3 and break even (which is very unlikely). I have been down that road before and it is no good. I believe you have to own a car for about 2 1/2 years in order to sell it and not get screwed. Just enjoy your 3 now that you have it.

I like the looks of 'em if that means anything to you.

Any info about what TRD wants for the Supercharger?

Yeah I was wondering how that would work out too. You always here about the depreciation you loose as soon as you drive it off the lot. While out test driving cars a few months ago there one dealership had a used Corolla with just 60 miles on it and another had a used Mazda3 hatchback with 640 miles on it. It made me wonder how the previous owners made out and if they got tricked by getting sold on the monthly payment amount. So I guess all I could say is be careful and good luck!

Losing: cargo space, mileage, people space, 2 doors, adjustable steering column, helluvalot of money, options for leather and such, probably going from no-service timing chain, build quality?

Gaining: bigass sunroof, 10-50HP (on a camry engine), newer car

Looks: The tC looks sorta silly in my opinion. just kind of a very plain "hi, I have 4 wheels, two doors, and a glass roof"... they also don't carry the rear side windows back to a point and thus have way too much sheet metal going from the trunk to the roof.

Feel: Mazda put a lot of thought into not making the 3 feel cheap... and the scion seems like it might suffer the same "you can so tell this was a $12,000 car with $5-18K worth of performance added" effect that befalls the lancer evo, impreza sti, and neon srt-4. It also has no track record yet for handling... My friend who deals in toyotas and scions is actually drooling over the mazda3 for its looks and handling.

Warnings: Chevrolet (cobalt SS) and saturn (ion redline) are getting a super duper overpower compact cars... what's to prevent you from wanting one of them when they show up... or a Mk V GTI... grass is always greener... (blah)

But ultimately: wait until the things get here so that you can test drive it and see if you actually feel that the extra HP is worth the losses... not to mention better quantify the gains and losses. Waiting will also give you a chance to let scion work out all the first model year kinks if you do decide you like it.

I have had 10 cars in 3 years. Equity doesnt mean squat. I was upside down on the eclipse I traded in for my 3 but I still got it. I am payin an enormous amount.. but if I do the tC I will be paying around the same amount. We'll see. There are a couple options I want that I don't have that the tC has. Like POWER, nice sunroof, yadda yadda. If I had a turbo and a sun roof I would be happy.. plus I'm not really diggin the station wagon look anymore. =(

(nervous)

Your money, dude.

Piece of advice: why don't you make up your mind on a car and stick with it?

Ouch. I was thinking maybe you'd try to break even on the 3 somehow but you're already in the hole. So where you're at are you also paying sales tax for each one of these cars you're buying in addition to depreciation, registratrion/tags and what not? Holy crap. Like Kain said, your money dude.

well maybe if you were concerned about equity and losing money everytime u pick up a new car you could be driving something nicer then a manufacturers' lowest budget car.

Sorry your not diggin the station wagon, and it sounds like the grass is greener over the Scion (septic) tank.

Go for it. Once you find the car that has the right "it", you'll settle down.

I have 4 vehicles, and for me, it always works out to the following formula..

1. to haul stuff.
1. to haul ass
1. to carry people
1 to kick around in with no worries.

Just remember, no matter which way you go, you never get your money back, upgrades, labor and depreciation are all your enemy.

Life is short, eat dessert first.

you're not really funny.. but in all reality I got the 3 because no one else had it. I got it a week after it came out. Never saw one on the road until they started sellin like hotcakes, and thats why I dont want it anymore. i dont care about money. I dont care what kind of car it is, as long as other people dont have it like those damn hondas an acuras. That's why it's either the tC, or the RX7, which I am leaning towards more.. and if your doggin me for low budget cars... why are you on this forum?

I thought I bought cars too aften. 3 in 4 yrs. However, I'm not owing anything. When done right it's very cool to be able to be driving a new car all the time. But, 10 cars in 3 yrs? Either your $$$$$$, or your bank is laughing at you.

I can see the appeal of the scion. Although I wouldn't buy it. It's just too boring looking for me. I'm interested in seeing what people do to them though. Toyota's "build quality" is overhyped as well. I used to work for toyota, and my god father runs a toyota. They are very good cars, and better then any domestic, but their quality isn't as great as the doughheads at car and driver or motor trend would make you believe and certainly not worth the extra $$$ that they seem to want for their cars/trucks.

Do what you will. it's is your money, or your dept. i personally would never trade so soon no matter how much I liked another car. Eventually, this is going to catch up with you unless you have some sort of dream job that is. If your able to do it....screw it, why not? and next year you can trade the scion for the mazdaspeed 3 :)

My bank accounts fine hahaha and I work for Vivid Racing. ya 10 cars is a lot.. but like I said I want what no one else has.. and again that's why I said I am leaning more towards the RX7.. or maybe even putting a turbo on our precious 3....... We will see.. I should just get a sunroof put in..

Just wondering where you live and if you have to pay a sales tax for each new car that you buy?

hmmm

Actually, my friend who works at a toyota dealer is sort of worried that the tC will have the same issues the prius is having (massive backorder after surprisingly high demand)

Thus, if you do want one, you might have to pre-order it now, on account of the fact that other people all seem to want one... Then again, it's just speculation, but lots of people seem to think it's a neat car with a might-as-well-get-it price.

also, if you are disenchanted with your car because they've started showing up elsewhere... you might have to do the same thing to the tC when toyota /finally/ makes something that snags the fresh-outta-college crowd... it'll only be new for a 1/2 year.

I'd say go for something rare that has already come and gone if you want something unique: last generation MR2's (back before they became the cutesy underpowered spyders), supra's, camaro's/firebirds... old vette's, hemi cuda's, heck... try and find an old edsel and see what sorts of fun you can fit beneath it.

well then, screw it...go for it :)

I use to have an MR2, sold it. I was kinda lookin into another one... but then again I see them a lot now. I see a lot of 3's... but none that are lowered, none that have exhaust, and not any with an intake YET. That AEM just came out so Im sure there will be some wanna be racers now. There is this car show every saturday night here and a lot of people go. You see TONS of cars there. I am the only Mazda3 for some reason that I have seen. I think I am just going to customize a turbo soon.. My birthday is in 2 weeks.. time to start asking. haha
