I already have access to all kinds of mods the minute this thing hits our shores. I am really looking forward to it.

I love my Protege, but I also drive 45 mi. each way to work, almost entirely highway and I can't think of a better dd for me.

Man, depending on how much miles I have my middle of next year and getting my girl into a new ride, I made trade for this since my current car is pretty much daily driver commuter LOL

I've been researching the new Mazda 2s and it will come to North America with a 1.6L 4cyl. engine with around 120hp front wheel drive and be priced about the same as a Fit or Versa. I'm seriously considering trading in my Protege for the Mazda 2 but will have to see it in person first and must come 5-speed manual, with a bit of toys like my Protege has. Keep in mind though it is a Ford Fiesta with more options as the research I did stated. It looks so good and is a Mazda need I say more! Oh it'll be released third or quarter 2010 which is what fall or winter??? In any case can't wait to see it at my Mazda dealership and will sure as heck will test drive it!

If I'm correct, the Mazda3 is a Ford Focus but that didn't stop buyers from making it the best-selling mazda in the US. I can't wait to go 40 mpg. (yippy)

LOL the Mazda 3 isn't a ford focus, although there are ford parts, its the platform that was shared among ford, volvo and mazda.

Launch Date Moved Up

looks like mazda is going to release the mazda2 here a little sooner. i think it's a good idea. the ford fiesta is getting all the shine and people are talking about the mazda2 as if it is based on the fiesta when it's the other way around. think by any chance we will get the 3 door?? i doubt it, but that would be nice. here's what insideline says:


"According to Takashi Yamanouchi, President and CEO, Mazda Motor Corporation, the on-sale date of the Mazda 2 hatchback has been moved up in anticipation of strong demand.

He wouldn't be any more specific, so it could be a week or maybe a couple of months earlier than the original July 2010 launch.

Either way, it's a sign that Mazda feels pretty confident about the emergence of the ultra-compact hatchback market. Or maybe, like us, Mazda is sick of hearing all about the Ford Fiesta."

My local mazda dealer said they will have 2's in about 2 monthes. They also said the 2.0 liter was an option for them as well. Its a festiva based model

We'll have to wait and see...2 months seems a bit early...I've read 3rd or even maybe 4th Quarter...Maybe as soon as spring or early summer!

Not sure about a 2.0 liter option...?

Also...I believe the Fiesta is actually based on the Mazda2 in terms of the chassis etc but obviously the two vehicles are quite a bit different in most other respects...

Yeah, ill believe them once they get a few on the lot. I know my buddy will call me when they do get there though. Ill keep an eye on this thread for updates too. But if I here anything promising or have any updates ill post here

?? hmmmm? i'll believe it when i see it. i've only heard we were going to get the 1.5 liter. i think that makes more sense seeing as how mazda wants to be competitive in the small car crowd. bigger engine, bigger price. i am kinda anxious to see what options we are going to get though. i'm not expecting much out of the ordinary, like a sunroof....

They will be showing a new Mazda 2 at the Portland Auto Show this week. I plan on taking lots of pictures and start the evil scheming for parts to have Jason build.
