Hi people,

I own a 01' Mazda 323 sp20 and am quite happy with my car, although in the future I hope to have something abit quicker, perhaps something turbo.

When its time for me to purchase another car, is it worth converting my current car to a turbo or should I just buy a car thats turbo originially?? Has anybody done this before? What are the approxiamate costs involved?

I like the appearance of my car and am happy to keep it for alot along, if I can make it considerably quicker.

I have some knowledge about cars, but if this was to be done a professional would be doing the job for me. This will of course increase the overal costs due to labour etc.

So.. any ideas? Im in Sydney btw.

Thanks for any advice. Pic of car is attached.

Welcome to the boards. There are a couple guys here that are Aussies. Take a look in "Forced Induction" for tips about turboing your SP20. Plenty of people around here have done it. There will be high costs to it, though. You'll probably want to forge your internals if you're wanting to go with high boost levels. May also want to think about getting an LSD to control that power in the curves.

TwilightProtege is in Australia, but he's mostly NA. I'm sure he can help you out.

Sweet car, id love to make mine RHD

i made my mp3 turbo, about 2500 bux and a weekend of labor to get it 100% right. but u still have lil things to fix, its fun tho.

Well you are in the right part of the country for turbo conversions, there are some in your area already and they are on this site, although I'm not sure about their names or how often they are check this site. They are on astina gt (Aussie site) often enough tho.

Rogue Pro5 is right about twilightprotege, I think he's still got the best NA SP20 in Australia. Even so he should be able to still give you some good advice.

Going from memory (and this might be a little out of date) you are looking at around $10k AU for a kit that will allow you around 6-7 psi boost, which is the max you'd probably want to go without changing the internals. That is using the HiBoost (I think) kit which is changed for the SP20 and sold by someone in Sydney (Not sure if they're still doing it. Would have to ask on astina gt.com I think)

Good luck!
