Mazda screwing our resale value?

dealers don't give a flyin flip about kbb or nada. We usa black book that's printed bi-weekly. For any doubts, we use a gray book for pre 97 models. Most the time it's a matter of opinion than what's stated in the books. Alot of things effect trade in value. Local prices are just that, local. If your driving a eugo, they are not going to treat it as a lambo. Only the higher line cars bring clean and extra clean book. So I'm sorry to say it, but it looks like we are stuck getting average and rough book for our rides. It sucks, but a protege is still a protege, not a lexus.
Ridin low and boosted

I got quoted blue book value for my MP5 at the Scubbie dealer. I was like :). I thought they were only going to give me 4k

unless there is a new "book" you just told us that you use NADA :D

nada books are black (bi-weekly) and orange (monthly)

Gonna check the local dealers to see what they have

glyph,
I just picked up my new 5 at Stokes Mazda for a good deal. List price was over 21 grand (it's pretty loaded) and I paid about 17,000.

Good luck!

Damn....I'm starting to feel like a schmuck :'(

Actually (working on memory alone as my window sticker is at home), with taxes, delivery, options, etc., the total sticker really was over $21,000.

Like I said though, the thing is loaded w/options: leather seats, moonroof, roof rack, sub and 6 disc head unit, AT & electronic (temp/compass) rearview mirror.

I will double-check the sticker tonight to verify that I'm not full of BS, though.

I dont understand you guys ... that's the price of the MSP and for those who payed 18.5 back in the day for a proteeg5, that was the price of a Mp3.

Man.

When building the 5 I bought on mazdausa.com, here is the result: (BTW, this does not include tax & delivery, and I don't think the sub is added in here either-also forgot to mention alarm earlier)

$20,270*

4-Spd Auto
130-hp 2L DOHC 16-Valve I4-Cylinder
Front-Wheel Drive

MOONROOF & 6-CD PACKAGE
4-SPD SPORT MODE AUTO TRANS W/OVERDRIVE
LEATHER SEAT UPHOLSTERY

I hear you. For the same cost I could've driven home in a Speed. However, making the transition to a commuter car from my beloved CR-V was a little less harsh by getting a pseudowagon of sorts.

I need the space for camping and music festival excursions and, frankly, I'm not quite sporty enough for a Speed (nor is my insurance company) ;)

I was under the impression that the local dealers were a bit behind the rest of the country. They take delivery on new cars later, and they price later (I think).

+ friction, check out out the regional section, trying to get a local charleston meet going in the next week or two. Also, come to clubprotege, where we have a few more people looking at it. Hope you enjoy the P5, but man, AT?

wow i only paid 16055 for my base model p5...i looked at some yesterday while i was at the dealer and theyre all around 19k now! wtf

I work for a Mazda dealer and yes in a way mazda is screwing our resale in a way because their discontinuing the car and when you dscontinue a car it's resale value will tend to drop.

Thanks for the info on the regional...I'll check it out.

AT is not my first choice-I would love to have a 5 speed. However, just bought a house in Pepperidge off of Ashley-Phosphate Road. Ashley Phosphate crawls at 7:30am-I'm just way too lazy as I approach 30 years old to mess w/a clutch in gridlock-I'm totally (although grudgingly) becoming a boring old surbanite husband!

Damn, I'm really having to defend my purchase in this forum!;)

It's a car. It'll depreciate. If you think you bought an "investment", you got suckered.

New products come out and inventory needs to be sold at cost or whatever. The holding costs for dealers at this point in the (end of life) model year for the Pro5 is approaching their purchase cost (which isn't invoice).

Reality sucks - find a bridge and get over it.

I am the PROUD owner of an 03.5 P5. My car is laser blue, sunroof, 6-disk, leather, chrome wheels, mazdaspeed exhaust, wheel locks (big deal), 5-spd, and mirror..I paid $300 less than invoice. I was stoked. Especially when he told me he was throwing in the exhaust for free. I traded in my bum MSP and told them that i had planned on haggling for a set of free floor mats, but when I got their I realized that floor mats came standard....so he said, I'll throw in the sport exhaust if you want it. (trying not to look too excited) I just said mumbled something about the least you could do and said yeah. My wife thinks its ricey. I think it's racey!

That would be the only reason I can see getting an AT, having come from Los A traffic. If I had to do that constantly (like I did with my manual CRX [SORE KNEE!]) I might consider another car just for the commute that's AT.

Hope you enjoy the car. What color is it? Maybe I'll see you out there.

oh sorry for the number. Mine stickered at $19,200 and I paid a little under $14K for it. I had a huge rebate and the rev-it-up coupon (thanks to CARL for that) the delaer sold it to me for $300 less than invoice and then knocked off the $2750 in rebates. I'm pretty happy. I owe less on this brand new loaded P5 than I did on my 3200 mile MSP.

See this is the reason I bought mine used. I got my 03 for 13,250 out the door. 5spd, sunroof, 6cd, roofrack, trayliner, cargo net, wheel locks, bumper gaurd, and bra.
:D

03.5 5spd sunroof, 6 cd changer, cargo net, and couple more things (no leather tho) 14,500 out the door stiker price was 18000 hehehe 3500 in rebates :)
