WASHINGTON Mazda is recalling 220 of its 2009 B-Series trucks equipped with two-wheel drive because the front spindle stem may crack due to an improper manufacturing process of the spindle.
"If a fracture of the spindle stem occurs, the wheel may separate from the axle, which may result in a loss of steering, increasing the risk of a crash without warning," said the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in its recall summary of the problem.
The recall is expected to begin on February 9. Dealers will inspect the front spindle and replace it, if necessary. Owners can contact Mazda at (800) 222-5500.
