Mazda North American Operations Get Prez

Fiat is partially owned by GM, and Ferrari's parent company is Fiat.

I'm not actually sure about any of those.. prove me wrong. :)

Heathen23, I'm not sure I get your point. From what you've experienced with your Fords, looks like you've had pretty darn good experiences with them. Wish my father's Lincoln Mark 7 lasted at least 75,000 miles (U.S.) but nope. Like I wrote above, it was leaking oil, electronics were going funky, clunking in the suspension, all starting at 25,000 miles. Our first and last Ford brand car. Otherwise it was a fun and neat car to drive and be driven around in.

Hey mad biker, I guess my point is this; I get irritated with people claiming how bad domestics are when I wouldn't be suprised if half of them haven't owned them. I have honestly had mixed experiences with all types of cars both directly and indirectly but I think the blanket statements about domestic cars is getting old. Alot of young people get hand me downs from there family, maybe this is where some of the bad domestic experiences are coming from for people? I can't honestly say that I feel more confident with Japenese engineering than I have with American engineering. I have owned and delt with both makers with problems and successes.

Keep in mind Ford Motor got involved with Mazda for several reasons but two reasons I know of are these;

1. Mazda's cost managment in production and development

2. Mazda's efecient small engine desing

Many of the small engine designs you see in the early nineties under Ford hood's are Mazda influenced and vice versa. This is not an accident. During the 80's when US automakers were being hammered by Japanese makers domestic makers looked over seas for solutions to compete. Ford's answer was Mazda.

p.s. The mark 7 was a ticking time bomb for sure!
