Mazda MX5 2003 1.6 Cambelt or cam chain?

Can anyone tell me whether the 2003 1.6 Mazda MX5 has a cambelt or cam chain please.

The Mazda5 is not the same as the MX-5. The MX-5 is also and better known as the Miata here.

The older 1.6L MZR engines use a timing belt but is not interference but not absolutely sure since Europe's latter version might be different. Moving to MX5 forum.

2003 MX-5 with a 1.6L engine? All the Miatas from 94 on came with a 1.8L engine. But all of them have timing belts as Silent pointed out.

Overseas NBs were sold with the 1.6 also. I don't think the OP is located in the US.

To answer the question though, all 90-05 Miatas, regardless of engine, have a timing belt.
