MAZDA FAMILIY R-4(BJ8W) 5MT 4WD in TAIWAN(ROC)

Or....buy an Evo...The platform is much more durable under modification. From what I understand, the rear diff in the Familia is somewhat weak.
troof. i made the generalization to just buy one with awd, but you probably wont be able to import it. or if you do $$$

did you convert it to left hand drive

Really?

Incredible!

How much $$$ for exhaust manifold ??
Can you get more?

aaaaaaaaaaaaaand I need new shorts.
(rofl)

Seriously,
What about a junkyard swap for the AWD?
Say something from a readily available chasis with pre-existing RWD?

You can get REALLY good manis here...

its a lynx rs. also a bj chassis car. and guys, its been researched, its cheaper to import an awd car than to do the "conversion" you need to import the whole floor pan of the car, all of the subframes etc, which is prohibitively expensive. you cant just slap the tranny and dif on there, it has no where to bolt up to. and you would have to literally remove your floor, weld this one on (which would cost thousands of dollars to do properly) and then source the engine and tranny. its really not worth it

umm, ok kinda didnt get me there I think

1. I wanted to find out a relative cost for that piece

2. My AWD swapping comment was a follow-up to the post made by Liquid Ag. I was continuing the discussion because I don't think its as impossible as it sounds.

What I want to know is if any modifications were made to the engine/tranny/AWD system to support that 380 PS?

omg....i feel so amazingly epic yet at the same time jealous of the BEST protege5 here on the forums. P5, familia you name it....i would buy your car in a heartbeat if you would sell to me!

the floor pan was priced at like 3k (remember its a huge piece of the chassis structure), shipping requires an entire container because of the size = 1-2k, plus getting it installed for 1-2k. all this for a relatively weak awd layout, you could sell your car and get an evo

I'm glad to know that the same platform or whatever chassis we have is supporting 300+hp in Taiwan, well, where I'm from actually. I knew we got a great car despite the slow engine. :D Nice car!!

哈哈...車很帥阿!! 如果你有什麼東西要我翻譯的話...可以說喔!!
居然能在這個論壇上看到中文也是滿神奇的事情...

This car is amazing. And it smells quality. One of you talked about the welds..im a welder and those welds are fantastic. No flaws at all!

Wanted to do a AWD swap on my RIP '92 Protege SE but...$$$ is always missing.

Keep this great work up!

Mark,

Where are you located in Taiwan?

I'm traveling there later this month.

I visit Taiwan about 4-5 times a year on business and there are tons of Mazda's and the rebadged Ford ??? (forget the name) based on the P5 platform. Lots of tuning also, but mostly Subaru, Honda and Mitsubishi's.

Nice welds on that manifold.
