Mazda engine in a Mercury...

1994 Capri
My 1994 Mercury Capri was manufactured in Australia by Ford of Australia from 1989-1994. It was powered by the Mazda 1.6L Turbo and non-turbo DOHC engine made by Mazda for its entire production run ('89-'94). FoMoCo and Mazda have collabriated for years. My dilemma is the engine in my Capri idles at 2000 rpm's on cold start and never idles down when it reaches normal operating temperature. I'm lucky to get 100 miles to the first half of a fuel fillup! Have not retrieved any fault codes at this time. Im thuinking the coolant temp sensor is the culprit. Faulty signal to the ECM telling it is is remaining in cold start temperature. Any thoughts or ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

Idle air control Valve. This has given me issues in the past.

Is replacement the only fix? The CHECK ENGINE lamp came on for a short while today and it surged from 2000-2400 rpms but settled back to the usual 2000 rpm later.

Maybe an O2 sensor but I would go with 88323GT on this one.
