Mazda emblem on back hatch

I purchased a replacement emblem for the back hatch - the one on the car got damaged. My question is, has anyone taken off the inside panel on the hatch? I don't see any screws and I didn't want to just try and pull it off.

well you always risk breaking little plastic tabs, so just try to pull evenly

take it out slowly you will be fine. why do you need to take it out though? You shouldn't if you are just replacing the emblem.

I assumed I would have to take it off to get behind the emblem...does the emblem just come off? The emblem has two tabs/prongs and a sticky backing...

I think most people say fishing string/dental floss and a hair dryer is all you need. Heat the emblem with the dryer and saw through the adhesive with the floss.

(mswerd) works great. Follow up with some goo-gone or the like (and then rubbing alchohol) and pop your new emblem on. I've done five Mazda emblems like this ...

*edit - not to mention a rear MSP wing lol!

Sorry for all the questions, but what about the 2 studs on the emblem? Do those not snap in the liftgate? Or are they just for stability? Thanks for the floss idea guys-

Would WD-40 work just as well as goo-gone?

I think they are just guide holes

They are alignment holes the factory uses to easily place the emblems on by hand, so they don't have to use a friggin robot on every different type of emblem.

The only thing holding the emblem on is 3m double sided tape.

The front just pulls off, easier than the rear, you dont need any hair dryers or fishing line.

Yes, it works. Youd prolly have to find a local machine shop to fab up something custom. may take a while and cost $$$$$

I pulled the front grill off the car to paint my front emblem....which is easy to do. Here is how I painted mine for a 'custom' look or you could use a dremel to cut off the areas I painted black.

I did mine the same way, only I fanged the bottom parts out...

I did this with a dremel and some black paint. I have one for the rear hatch as well, but I'm waiting to shave the back and fix the rust before i install it.
