Mazda Dealer Invoice Price Increase?

In November 2007 I ordered a Mazda CX-9 at "Dealer Invoice Price" to be delivered in February 2008. The Dealer now informs me that the "Dealer Invoice Price" has increased $457 or roughly 1.5%. Can anyone shed any light on this? Has there been a recent Manufacturer's price increase? Edmunds.com invoice price does not reflect any invoice price increase? I pick-up the car tomorrow. Thanks

This was also reflected in my invoice as an Assessment Fee, almost for the same amount, actually. Basically it's an advertising fee they stick in there, since I did call up Mazda and this fee does not show up on their computers when I gave them my VIN.

It's another one of these bullsh!t fees they try to pass on to you. It's actually a very interesting way of doing things: if you use S-plan, the invoice price is absolutely non-negotiable. And since this fee shows up in the invoice, you can't argue it! Although in my case I was able to get invoice minus $500, so that cancelled out the fee.

Ask you dealer to give you the VIN of the car. Then call Mazda, and ask them if this fee is part of the invoice. Mazda will say it is not, I guarantee you. Maybe Mazda can fax you a copy of that invoice?

The assessment fee is region-dependent. In SF Bay Area, it is about $200. Some area does not even has that. It is part of the invoice that dealer actually paid. (read edmunds.com for details).
However, dealers make money from holdback (2-3%) and volumn discount (reach sales target - get more money back). So, they still make money even if they sell you a car at $1000 off invoice. Don't be shy in negotiation.
In SF Bay Area, you don't need S-plan to get $500 under invoice. I even had an offer for $600 under invoice after two email exchange, but it was from a dealer that is a bit farer from me.

Thanks for the info. I called Mazda (Friend @ Mazda) and they would not provide the dealer's invoice for a given vin. The dealer showed me the invoice and the "increase" was a NY regional assessment fee. However, he did make up the difference with the dealer cash back which was not available when I originally made the deal.

The invoice price did go up on my 2008 after I had ordered it in 2007, but it was due to the BSMS that was added to the GTs.
