Feel slight vibration in gas and brake pedal when AC is on

Hello everyone,

I am just wondering if anyone else has this issue. I have a 2023 Mazda CX5 Select. I can feel a slight vibration when travelling at slow speeds, and when stopped when I have some load on either the brake or accelerator pedal. I don't have to have the pedal pressed all the way, but I can feel some vibration, although it is very slight. I have found the vibration is only there when the Air Conditioning is on. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this something normal or a known issue, or is something wrong with the A/C compressor or engine?

Cheers,

Biz

I have also noticed that the idle dips low when the A/C compressor cycles on, and have seen several others mention the same, so it's not just your car.

How bad are the vibrations? And do you feel them on both the brake and gas pedal?

Have you taken to dealer, or done anything to remedy the situation? I am not sure if this is normal, or some kind of malfunction that can lead to more damage down the road 😵‍💫

up until 2025 models, Mazda uses a non variable AC compressor.

"Normal operation of a car's AC compressor might involve a slight shudder or shaking, particularly noticeable at idle, as the compressor engages and places an additional load on the engine
. This is because the AC compressor, essentially acting as a miniature engine, requires power from the car's engine. When the compressor kicks in, the engine's idle speed may drop momentarily, resulting in a slight vibration"

The topic has been discussed before if the OP is interested:

Wow, thank-you very much!

So how does an variable compressor differ in operation?

In car air conditioning systems, a non-variable (or fixed displacement) compressor runs at a constant speed, either fully on or off, while a variable displacement compressor can adjust its output to match the cooling demand, offering greater efficiency and more consistent temperature control
