Mazda 5 w/door moldings pulled...

You just need to lift one end and pull. You can start it with some fishing line I hear and the goo gone is to remove the residue ie adhesive. Do it on a warm day as it is easier. I had mine started but chickened out. Buck buck bacock.

Thx. I bought a goo remover from auto source accessories here in canada today, and am going to wait for the weather to get better then rip them off my mica red 5

I just want people to know as well that if this goes horribly wrong (pissed) I was only offering what other people have told me.

Please do at own risk is the disclaimer...

all that holds the moulding on is some adhesive tape. It comes off really easy on a hot day. my only problem is when i wash the car you can still see the residue from the mouldings...ghostly....(drunk)
but it looks bad ass!

just a question i was thinking about to do this, how hot outside do you think is a good temp to start this project? because its going to be 82 tomorrow.

that should be hot enough, the car's surface will be hotter than 82 if you park it in the sun. I did mine on a 70 day and it was fine, the side that was facing the sun pulled off easily, the shady side left some gunk. But I basically just had to clean it all off. If you have a heat gun it would help, but really not important its just that 3m tape and it comes off pretty clean. I was a little scared too when I pulled mine off because on my ol' honda it had to be patched and shaved to get that clean of a look.

No one actually mentioned how-to get the molding off, all you guys have talked about, is getting the "goo" off.

Heat is your friend on this deal, but you can also use some dental floss to get it started on one end. Same story for emblems (assuming they are attached only by adhesive).

My wife bought our 5 two days ago and I'm currently in Iraq so I won't be able to tell you which emblems are stuck on vs snapped on for awhile yet, but I plan on debadging the whole thing to the extent that I can once I get back. If anyone knows which emblems are "permanently" attached I'd appreciate it...

If I remember correctly, on the 5 the Mazda and flying "M" are attached with pins, just the "5" might be removeable, on the front the "M" is attached to the bumper/grill thing with clips...well at least on the 06/07, I'm not sure about the newer ones with the updated facia. Maybe consider blacking them out. I might be doing that, but still thinking whether its worth it.

Hey "ROCKET" if you're in Iraq, I'm guessing you're deployed with the military, if you have any friends stationed in Japan, you should see if they can get you the Damd front grill (emblemless) I think they even have a rear spoiler that covers the rear emblem.

Thanks, wish I could afford another, but paying up the yin-yang for the other car...wish I had waited.... probably would have had two of these babies...a 5spd would have been great, I woulda been tempted to do a MS3 motor swap or something fun with the money I would have saved!!!
back to the topic at hand...
BLACKOUT- did you get a chance to take off your moulding today...it was burning up down here in Cali. My tires were melting....my kit was melting, the moulding probably would have just melted off if you left it in the sun(nuts)

And "ROCKET"... how about some part numbers to the roof rails that are stock on all 'non-North American' Mazda5's?

Not roof racks people - roof rails... they mount directly into our 'rain gutters'.

Thanks for the insight. Too bad about the emblem- I think the back would look much cleaner shaved. And yes I'm in the Army, but no, unfortunately I don't have any connections in Japan so I can't help you there.

We've been down this road before with the roof rails...back in 2006/7. You can search the forum
The price of the rails imported to NA at that time was extremely expensive. You can check with a Mazda dealer in the UK for a quote....but it's probably still not worth the cost.

Yeah Tilly got them pulled off within 5min and no residue was left. A quick clean and all good. And how you said that you got a ghostly appearance, I have that now until I can really clean that later. Thanks for all your help I will post pics later.

Oh I don't need anything from Japan I have my own connections (family)(rei) but I was thinking if any of your buds were relocating they could pic them up for you out there and bring em back, hella cheaper for JDM toys.

^^yep...leave the car in the sun for a bit to warm it up. Then just grab then end and pull them off. Here's mine:
