Mazda 5 crash test/rating?

Nope, as you found neither NHTSA nor IIHS thinks the three year old 5 is important enough to crash test. Flip the coin, the Kia Rondo's been out for what, a year? ...and it already has NHTSA tests completed.

Oh well, rest assured the 5 and it's bazillion airbags will keep you safe :)
 
Yeah, not NHTSA crash test results, but my concern is somehow mitigated by the fact that it passed the Japanese NCAP and EuroNCAP crash tests with the highest ratings (BMW, Volvo, Honda, Toyota or even Renault in Europe and Japan should be a good comparison point IMO)

you should just volunteer one of your 5's for test.
 
I wonder if my insurance would go down if they tested it in the US? It's not high right now...actually it's cheaper than my '07 Honda Fit, which really isn't very expensive. Do insurance companies use NHTSA ratings for their premiums calculations? Or do they just factor in airbags and stuff.
 
Heh, insurance companies' algorithms probably factor in hundreds of variables... it's probably best not to ask (lol2)

But yes, agreed. Can't remember what I'm paying but I know my insurance is relatively dirt cheap for the 5.

LOL, so few people know about the Mazda5 that I'm sure that if I call NHTSA to volunteer one they will think is a scam: "Mazda5 Crash Test, WTF? Get outta here"

I know for the GF its cheaper on insurance than her 2000 Elantra was.
 
I agree with jandree22 that the calculations are probably complex. Still, one very large factor is damage/crash repair costs. Another is who's driving them (demographic) and similar factors.
 
i think Mz5 should be "safe" vehicle to drive.. after seeing youtube crash test

unless Mazda used different sheet metal (thicker)/frame design for European/Japan market.

Front impact
There was heavy distortion and rupture of the driver's footwell in the frontal test. The pedals presented a risk of injury to the driver's lower legs. Structures in the dashboard represented a potential hazard to the knees and femurs.
