Are All Mazda 3 SP23's 5x7" speakers?

If so, does that mean to put in 6.5" speakers i must make brackets?

AFAIK, all 3's use 5x7's in front and back regardless of model. 6.5's might fit if you fabricate a bracket, but the opening will have to be enlarged to get the speaker basket to fit. You'll have better luck using 5.25's. Most stereo shops should have the needed bracket, unless you want to make one yourself. I believe Crutchfield will send you the brackets and speaker wire connectors if you buy the speakers from them.

I elected to get 5x7's, but wanted something that sounded decent and got these: http://www.polkaudio.com/car/product.php?name=mmc570

Whatever speaker you use, I would do two things:

1: Use the OEM speaker shroud (on the back of the stock speaker) to keep rain off the speaker.

2: cut away the edging around the inside of the speaker grill on the door panel. It is an oval of thin plastic that I guess is to funnel the sound to the cabin, but the way it is made might cause the speaker cone to hit it during excursion making an awful rattle.

Good luck!

6x8 Pioneer REV SERIES

I suggest you try these 6x8 Pioneer.... deep bass and fantastic highs, even using only the OE head unit. I listen mostly to Jazz and Standards and can tell you that the tweeter is really high quality.

They have a 2 way built in crossover, so they are extremely easy to install.

And they are an exact fit too :-)

Have them in my ride since september, completed by another set of Pioneer for the back doors that i found cheap on Ebay.

Add a sub and you will be happy.

It is just me or does $200 seem WAY high for a couple of car speakers? (poke)

edit: nevermind. just found them on eBay for $69. (thumb)

If you think $200 is bad, try $600+, which is what my old Diamond Audio Hex series components retailed for about 3 years ago. At the time of purchase, I was working part-time as an installer so I got a good discount, but still expensive. The expensive stuff does sound better, but does the quality justify the cost? Dunno, it's up to the person I guess. I do know higher quality speakers make more of a difference when amplified (50Wrms or more).

That's an easy question for me.

Hell no! (screwy)

wow... bitchin bout a 200$ pair of speakers... i think the total $$ on my stereo so far would prob make you cry... 2200 or so...and thats with doing all the installation/fabrication work myself...

oh and btw 6.5 do fit without any problems if you have a bracket... and there is plenty of depth... i have the boston Z6 and those things are deep as hell and had tons of clearence room... (yes even with the window down)

I bought some Infinity speakers that fit in the exact opening with no modifications at all and they sound excellent. I left the stock speakers in the rear doors. I put in a Sony mp3 deck and added a obcom amp and 1 mtx 12. Sounds 200% better than stock. I bought the Infinity's at my local cartoys for $99 a pair. I have seen them lately on ebay for around $55 and the tweeter is moveable to angle it towards the sweet spot. When I use the front and rear balance on the Sony, the rear speakers sound like crap, sound out of the Infinity's is probably 8x louder and clearer. The stock speakers look very generic and all it says on back is 4ohm 25w.

Round speakers sound better, and there is plenty of room for any 6.5, 6.75" speaker, even oversized ones. The trick is to make a MDF baffle using 1/8", 3/8" or 1/2" MDF. Don't forget to trim the oval shaped plastic on the inside of the interior door panel.

Hey what are the speakers called? Like what model name?

Pioneer makes three relatively inexpensive 6x8 speakers, and the only difference between each that I can see is the number of tweeters (1, 2, 3). The model he is taking about is probably the TS-G6840R. Here is a link so you can see for yourself: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AbUNeO...N&o=m&skipvs=T&nvpair=FFBrand|Pioneer#see_all

NO!NO!NO!... not the TS-G6840R, this one is the cheapest of Pioneer and sounds like....well.... cheap!!! I wanted those for my back doors and changed my mind after listening to them.

Sorry, I didn't know which ones you were talking about. I agree those low end ones aren't that good, but some people like them even if they are cheap (price as well as quality) so...

I haven't heard those specific ones, but I really like these: http://www.crutchfield.com/S-kFazcHAiKzR/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=52200&I=107MMC570. They sound really nice - the highs blend very well with the midrange and can handle higher power without sounding harsh. I have them crossed over at 90Hz, so can't comment on the bass response. And for Goldwing2000; I didn't spend $200, they were only $80 plus shipping from eBay, which isn't bad.

hey guys do you think 6x9s would fit?!?!?

I used the 'what fits my car' widget on Crutchfield and CarDomain to see what fits...both say 6x8's will fit with no mods...6x9's aren't even listed but I'm sure you can get them in there with some cutting. I assume those sites don't list speakers that require mods.
