Anyone ever hear of chipping or reflashing these transmissions? the 4 speed is discussed here but thats a different tranny altogether. i want to know if anyone can find a flash or chip that will raise line pressure via the pressure regulator, its electronically managed so i don't think an accumulator mod will work. also does the jatco run off of 2 or 3 planetary sets. and if its possible to get another ratio out of it for a 6th gear.

i work for chrysler, as some of you know, and the NAG1 tranny is a 5 speed, but we can reflash it to make 7 gears if need be. but mercades owns the reflash so we kind of cant use it. :(

nothing can be done to them sorry bud. mazda computer systems are pretty tight with the stock parameters. i'm a mazda tech and have tried playing around with stuff, but i have had no luck

there has to be a way to raise line pressure. would an accumulator mod raise it at all, or force it to shift faster? or would the electronic pressure regulator override it?

I'd like to know if I can grab a 5-speed auto and easily swap in place of the 4-speed auto. Is the trans controller separate? Communications bus the same? I can get a 5-speed auto for $300. If it's plug and play it would almost be worth the Saturday afternoon to try it out.

the ecu and tcu, if they are seperate, may not shake hands well and fight eachother....but for that price its worth a try. 5spd = win

lentech does some stuff with mazda automatics, maybe they have some ideas.

Does anyone know if there is anything tcm/ecu related that could cause the transmission to learn wrong? Basically when I get the tcm/ecu reset or reflashed by mazda the transmission seams to shift great for about a week and a half then it learns "something" and the shifting isn't as smooth or as fast. Also my gas mileage goes down a bit. If I remove the battery terminals and push the brake to reset the ecu/tcm it drives good again for a week and a half or so. Any ideas what could cause this? Oh and I don't necessarily drive it hard, but I also don't drive it like a granny either. Basically it seems to take a lot longer for the tip in/down shift to occur. I have to press the gas pedal further and for a longer duration before it shifts. My car has 33,000 miles on it and the transmission has roughly 15,000 miles on it since it was replaced a year ago.

Oh and the original transmission was replaced because of a lack of line pressure which caused it to shift funny.
