From the owners' manual:I would not mix brands of oil in the crankcase. Some of the additives of the new high tech oils can react with each other to the detriment of both. Buy a quart from you local dealer if you need one.
From the owners' manual:
U.S.A. and CANADA
0W-20 full synthetic recommended:
Mazda genuine oil is used in your Mazda
vehicle and 0W-20 lubricant is
recommended. Mazda genuine 0W-20 oil
is required to achieve optimum fuel
economy. If 0W-20 is not available, 5W-
20 may be used for oil level maintenance
and oil changes however, it must be
replaced with 0W-20 at the next oil
change to maintain optimum performance.
Recommended viscosity: SAE 0W-20
In other words: "everything in moderation"
You guys have me interested. is this Molybdenum additive necessary?
That's what I do too, buy the Mobil 1 from Walmart & bring my own oil filter to the dealer & they charge ~$8 for an oil change. $20 less if I use their synthetic oil after adding everything up.A 5qt bottle of Mobil 1 0W20 is $25 at walmart. I will be using that. I used Mobil 1 (best oil IMO) for years, great oil:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mobil-1-0W-20-Advanced-Fuel-Economy-Full-Synthetic-Motor-Oil-5qt/17034374
That's $5/qt. For Moly additive (not sure if Moly is even necessary), you can get 12qts on Amazon for $84:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned)
That's $7/qt. But the shipping kills ya at $41 which makes it $10.42/qt
You guys have me interested. is this Molybdenum additive necessary? So we buy Skyactiv to get 87 octane but get dinged in the back due to higher oil prices? I also don't agree with oil "additives" mixing. This would limit you to one brand oil for the life of the vehicle.
