Well, got it working last night. Disabled the injectors, then cranked it to check with my timing light that I was getting spark. Nothing. Checked timing light on my other Protege, worked fine. So, I spent like 40 mins pondering, went in, has some food, and then remembered while I was wiring under my dash, I blew my 60A IGN KEY fuse (which I already replaced.) So, I checked the rest, and my 10A "engine" fuse was gone. Replaced it and voila. Spark galore. So, installed my STi 575's, ran the f pump to bleed out the air for abour 5 mins, rechecked all vac lines, and decided it was go time. Enabled my injectors and went for it. (Timing was locked at 15* to tune idle) Holy s*** it fired right up on the Haltech base maps. Rich as s*** with that big of an injector, but I quickly leaned it out to idle around 13-14 AFR.
Spent awhile going through each RPM (1000, 1500, 2000, 2500 etc) as per the haltech manual to get a good no load tune in there. GOt up to 6000' and called that good. Made a few small changes to post start enrichment, fuel coolant correction, etc as well.
For the time being, the stock ECU controls my idle. When hot with the a/c off it became really lopey (see thread http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123673897 ) so I used the BAC valve screw trick to help stabilize it. It still dips from time to time, but with the screw out a bit now, not to the point where it stalls completely. I'm thinking this is more of a tune issue.
So tonight it's time for a bit of light load street tuning. My Haltech bosot controller is currently set to let everything bleed out so my 7lb WG spring will cap boost for me for the time being. Enjoy the thread!
