what is the max boost u can make on a 1.8l engine on the miata? just curious because i am lookin to get a 95-98 model miata..

i dunno, i looked on there site and saw that one, i dont think that is the stock block... if it is then holy s***..

pre 1997 miatas with the 1.8 had stronger internals than the 97s and up. you would be better suited with one of those cars and a trip to Flyin Miata

Can any of the miata guys come in and let us know the limitations of the stock rods?

Bill @ Flyin Miata informed me that 97 and up miatas had the same weak rod casting as our proteges do.

And it's roughly the same displacement as well, right? That would mean you could get maybe 9-10 psi safely. I am basing this on my car, though.

I suppose the smaller engine benefits from a shorter stroke.

"On a 94-97 engine you're looking at 240whp max is a safe one to use, assuming the engine was in good condition. Just don't try to rev it too high." they said about 13 to 15psi depending on what turbo

they also told me 98 + has the weak rods, but with proper tuneing they can hold 10psi

It all depends...

If it's a daily driver, I wouldn't go more than 10-12 for reliability

If it's a weekend car, then 15 or so.

If it's a track car, 20+ on a rebuild with strong inner bits.

Don't forget, the miata is pretty light weight. So a small boost in power will show a lot more than on a bigger car. I'm only running about 6 right now, and it's day and night between mine and a stock one. I'm putting down about 150 to the wheels. Of course, I got a 1.6l so I only had about 100 to begine with :D
