Matrix owners bashing the P5

I remebered the first time a Matrix was in my shop. About ten people all thought it was one of the ugliest damn cars in existance.

I also test-drove a Matrix before finally getting my P5. There are pros and cons for either vehicle. The Matrix cost less (base/XR) than the P5, and it had better fuel economy. I loved the interior of the Matrix too, the chrome highlighting of the dash was just too nifty to be ignored. The Pro5 looked better on the outside, and it had better throttle response (from what I noticed) than the Matrix. Also, the guy at Toyota was telling me that there was a waiting period for the Matrix because od supply/demand. B.S!! I wanted a car now, I didn't want to wait 4-6 months. It would be cheaper for me to get a car now instead of waiting that period of time and use my truck in the interim. So I traded in the old F-150 and got the P5. Another minor influence was the fact that I took my parents for a quickie test drive too, and my mom just loved it. ~LOL~ She said "I love the colour!" so that pretty much pushed me over the edge. Hehehe... so I'm a mama's boy, who knew? :) I'm very happy with it, I'm glad I got it. Plus, I got to meet all you fine folks!!

saided18,

You'll take some fire from the GTI-camp on that pocket-rocket history lesson. The GTI was introduced in 1983. There is a stong argument for the Omni (I'm staring at a red one out of my window right now!) but those who know say GTI.

I just looked at that matrixvibe thread ... seems most of the matrix fans were disappointed that the PT Cruiser beat it out in the CD comparo.

I say let them complain all they want. The P5's a cute little station wagon that can carry 2 mountain bikes inside and still be a hoot to drive.

BTW, I've beaten several SUV w/V6's that thought they can outaccelerate me off of a green light and then cut me off on a merge ahead... hmm, they hit their brakes pretty hard... and this without any engine mods on my mostly stock P5. 'nuff said.

BTW, I got my Midnight Blue for $16,800 USD (plus tax and all that other fees and what not) w/the chrome wheels. Only $400 over invoice. And all made at Hofu Plant, Hiroshima. Even the Mazda6 isn't being shipped from Japan. It's being made by Ford...uhoh...

yeah but i was talking about the whole turbo thing. before the Omni there really wasn't any 4cyl turbos. even after there weren't really any turbo 4cyls that i can remember. it is only now that every company is "turboing" their car. example turbo PT, Beetle, Jetta, Golf, Protege.... you now. and really when i was growing up i always wanted a gulf rabit (not the converable)! those things rocked!

You're right about the turbo part. Chevy made a bad-ass (for the time) Intercooled Sprint Turbo around '87 but after that there were no turbos really until the Talon/Laser/Eclipse, MR-2 and the short lived Celica All-trac in the early 90's. I would have given a testicle for one of those Celicsa All-tracs...

well all in all its an endless battle its what we call an opinion, everyone has one and people sometimes feel the need to express it, even though there has been many facts to prove that certain cars are better than others but then again its just all about opinion.......

live on get over with it and go drive "zoom, zoom zoom"

OK maybe our Pro5 is underpowered but that doesn't mean that we can't modify it to have more power. Also the Matrix can't touch our torque. My car guns on green lights!!!:D :D

.....he even went on to since the matrix is on the celica platform...

I'm sure most of you knew this, but the Matrix/Vibe is actually on the Corolla platform. The only thing it shares with the Celica (to my knowledge) is the engine.

And how can anything that sits up so high handle better than what sits so low?

So,
Who would win in a straight line performance?
I never thought of going up against a Matrix XRS 6 spd.
What do you guy's say? Can our mighty Mazdaspeed Protege take one out?

It has always been Spec-V Vs MSP.

It would be interesting to see the outcome of ...
MSP vs Matrix XRS;)

off the line, yeah, the MSP...but the XRS does have 180 at the top end...

i guess it'd depend on how long the race was...

This is why Mazda has to build a MazdaSpeed Protege5! Same specs as the MSP - but wagon! That will kill any XRS and/or Sentra Spec s***:D

I forgot to tell you guys that it's snowing here right now...:)

I'm about to drive my MP5 on the snow for the second time!
