maryland inspection

My son just bought a 92 mr2 from some guy in New York and it needs a maryland inspection. I know he needs to have the tint removed and I don't think it has tag lights, other than that it seems to be in good condition, but has been modified quite a bit. I'm looking for an inspection station for him to take it to that won't take advantage of him, anyone have any recommendations for me? Thanks.

Word of caution: Maryland probably has one of the toughest inspections in the US. You only have to do it once, and they make sure they bleed you for all you have. Take the car to a trustworthy mechanic first, and take care of anything that is questionable... ANYTHING. I think the MVA website has a place where you can see exactly what they check.

When I brought my car down from New York in 1998, Maryland failed the car... and it was a 1996 car! I had to have the state trooper come and inspect my car to get past the crooked inspector. Every MVA major station has a state trooper assigned to it. You can call them if you feel the inspection station is ripping you off. The can, and will, shut down crooked stations... or make them pass your car. But you have to have your car in tip-top shape. Hope this rambling of mine helps a little.
