I changed the CX 5 T oil today, about 4400 miles on this oil change. Mazda recommends changing oil in Turbos every 5,000 miles.
I didn't catch a sample of the oil. I might grab a sample on the next oil change or not.
I cut open the oil filter, no pics because there was no metal or any noticeable debris. Nice stout, high quality filter, Purolator Boss.
The oil plug had some "fuzz" on it. I was a little surprised because of the low mileage on the oil, vs ATF with 30,000 miles. The magnetics on my trucks trans plug is about twice this amount. They trans has bands and clutches wearing, nothing like this in the engine.
I'm not alarmed, just surprised this metal was not caught in the oil filter. My guess cold start up wear when the oil filter is by passing, not filtering, oil. I suppose this metal powder might collect in the bottom of the pan or eventually get filtered.
The oil plug is cheap way to capture that fine metal material.
I lost some of the metal on the end when the tip dragged across the oil pan. This little magnet is strong!
