I don't really care dude. There are going to be a ton of car photos and I didn't want to do that. It's not like we are voting yet.
As much as I hate to be "that guy", what makes you think you're so special that you shouldn't have to follow the rules? The rules are there for a reason, and that is to keep things organized and maintain a level playing field. If we all submitted, then resubmitted, then changed our pics again before the time was up, it would be a mess for yashart to have to sort through. If you want to see the variety of the submissions, there's no reason you can't simply wait until the last day for submissions and post up then.

Where to begin...

First, Hambino... please understand that nobody was trying to attack you. The rules were setup to make things fair for everyone.

Secondly, it seems like some of you are really stretching the boundaries of this months topic. To me, the main focal point of the image should be something in-motion. Jeg0024, Jbiird317, and MSPM1chelle all took great pictures, but they just dont seem to "fit the bill" 100% for me... Although they are technically in motion, they would fit better in a different category.

I need everyone's input at this point. It wouldnt be fair to let others resubmit their images, while making Hambino switch back to his original. But at the same time, I just dont think some of these images really qualify for an action or in-motion shot. What are your thoughts?

Nice job jeg, awesome capture. What kind of camera? 20D?

One way to correct the problem for next month / contest-

Incorporate a $5 submission fee, per image. Submit as many as you like. Winner walks with the pot.

Can build on the concept by getting a vendor involved. Image submission money gets collected by the vendor, and vendor matches the submission pool to justify a decent prize amount. Selected winner gets a gift certificate to the business for the amount. Vendor gets to utilize the image for a month on their site to show their support. Works out for everyone.

That's a tough one, Yashart... I can see the issue with the few that you mentioned; when voting, people may pay more attention to the quality of the photo and less to its pertinence to the topic. I'm not sure how dictatorial you want to get with it, but maybe a screening process is in order for future contests? Or, in the mean time, (on the voting thread) put the intended topic in very large, bold, prominent typeface and emphasize that voting should be cast based on both the quality of the image and its conformity to the topic?

My thoughts are this. Some shots will not quite follow the "motion" theme, some will. In the end we'll get some bad shots, some good shots, some great shots and the VOTERS will decide so just let whatever is entered be entered.

Just because you have a beautiful shot doesn't mean you'll win if it doesn't convey the theme so in the end the voters will decide which shot is best. I know I just won't be voting for the prettiest pic but the one that best conveys the theme of motion. I think we're all smart enough to understand that.

In the last contest I took what I though was a cool reflection shot with the bionicle and altered it in photoshop (As per the rules) and I got zero votes. But I'm totally cool with that because in the end the best pics ended up getting the most votes and I learned my lesson for this time (the lesson being haters on these forums don't like Bionicles :) )

So just let people submit their pics and let the voters decide.

P.S: Can we please all try to behave like adults and not ruin this awesome thread we have going here? Pretty please!

Additionally, the photo caption / story behind it is a chance to sway the viewer. Just my $0.02

Great post I I agree on this.

I think wording regarding the shot should be limited to a title only.

Photography is my trade and I take it very seriously, again, I'm sorry a thread with such honest intentions has turned into a bunch of nonsense.

No one is perfect good man. We should all learn to take fair criticism and move on. It makes up better people. Heck a fellow forum member totally dissed the picture I took in the last photo contest but I can't let it get to me.

I've posted some shots that I desperatly wanted to change but the rules are the rules. I think this thread is doing just fine. Just chill and get ready for the next thread with a killer shot. :) (usa)

I think we should keep it just the way it is. Free and open to the public.

PS: I'm feeling a little bit like a post tramp. Please forgive my ramblings.

I'm sorry I "bent" the rules, however, I felt my photo was out of category for what the contest was asking for. While mine was in motion the concern about over-saturation of car photos was present, so I did what I felt was appropriate.

No problems Hambino. Thank you for being so understanding. It really is amazing how something so little can blow into something so much bigger than it really is.

...I don't think you can rightfully eliminate anyone from the pool. Art is all about being able to convey a message or theme, and despite whether something is physically moving or not, it can convey this theme. (I think that most of these have moving components, maybe not main subjects). There were also no specifications as to how the motion is to be conveyed, i/e: "frozen in time", "panning", "tracking", whatever. Additionally, the photo caption / story behind it is a chance to sway the viewer. Just my $0.02

I have no intentions of eliminating anyone from this contest. Although I agree with you, I feel that there should still be some boundaries. I dont care what method the photographer wishes to use to capture the image, as long as the image they are capturing pertains to the theme. I have been extremely easy going the past contests. Like you said, photography is a form of art. Who am i to dictate what is and is not art? The hardest part to me, is creating a theme... How do you make people stay stick to a theme, without cramping putting boundaries on their creativity?

Ahh, to be honest with you, I would really like to keep the 2 seperate. I run/fund these contests because I enjoy photography. It is a hobby of mine, and these contests are setup to be fun for everyone. The prizes are simply given out, as incentives. I would rather have small rewards to keep it friendly and fun.

I'd rather not have to screen images, but I will make the intended topic even larger. Every voting thread that I create, I ask the voters to pick the image that best captured the theme. Hopefully, people will continue to do this.

That is exactly what I have done in the past. To me, it just seemed like we were getting more images that seemed to be out of the theme, than images that were actually pertaining to the theme. We'll see how things play out from here.

Amen!

Final words :) In all fairness, I guess Hambino should submit his original image. No reason to disqualify or do anything so drastic. For the people who submitted images that seem to stray away from the theme (to me anyway), they will stay as is. The members of this forum will be able to vote on the images that they feel captured the theme the best. For people who still have not entered their images, please don't be afraid to capture what you feel best portrays the current theme :)

Now lets get back on topic!

Read the thread. Yashart is taking opinions on what to do about the contest. Until a resolution has been made, there is no sense in me submitting again. Quite frankly, I'm pretty tired of your nonsense. I IM you and try to talk to you on a reasonable level and you insult me, so please, feel free to **** off now.

Everyone brought up valid points and it seems to me after reading all the post(some may have been deleted I dunno) that you were the one to jump at everyone with what you call "immature comments". Case in point what I have bolded up top...

i think one of the problems is that people aren't taking pics for this contest, they're pulling from their already created portfolio and trying to make it applicable to the theme. while there's NOTHING wrong with using something you previously created, it must truly apply to the theme at hand instead of "forcing" it.

It's been so miserable out. It's tough, every time I try to go out it's either snowing or raining. Or both. I can't wait until the spring, not the fake one we are in now.

Yeah I hear you. That's why I've been trying to work with night shooting and inside if possible. More pics,,more more.

since im lacking creativity, sometimes finding a cool old pic that sorta applies comes out better than going out and taking a new one that is 100% on theme
