Manual trans. stuck in gear?

Mazda Protege5
I have an 02 Protege5 with the manual transmission.

I was driving home from work last week, and all of the sudden, I couldn't get the car into first or second gear. Luckily I was close to home, so I limped the rest of the way in third gear.

I have been thinking my problem involves the slave cylinder, since my transmission and clutch never really showed any signs of problem. But now, I every time I put the shifter in neutral, it tries to move forward in what I presume is third gear. 1, 2 and Reverse all cause the car to simply stall.

Adding to my problem, my car is in the garage, and I can't push it backwards. It will move a bit, but there's enough friction to make it too difficult (not to mention dangerous) to push.

Any ideas how to get the trans. back to neutral?

Thanks

Does not sound like the slave cylinder since all that does is release your clutch
Sounds like your transmission is done.

jack up the car and roll it back on the jack.have a couple people steady it. Presurre plate could be done. you could see what your shift linkage looks like.

Thanks for the input. I never had much luck getting it in neutral, but I did manage to drive it to one local shop to get an opinion. I dropped it off at around 8:30am. They called me back at 9:04 and told me the transmission was bad.

As I was driving it home, the trans managed to go into neutral, and I was then able to use 1st-3rd gear. I didn't shift any higher since I was driving through a neighborhood. But by the time I got home, I was back to not being able to bring it to neutral, and was back to using third gear again.

Thursday, I'll be hauling it to a more trusted mechanic 2 hours from here to get a second opinion (back in my hometown), and then hope for the best.

To me it sounds like what would happen if I were to only push my clutch in halfway,... the gears would be binding preventing shifting in or out of gear?

Maybe change your gear oil and bleed your clutch as a relatively cheap test to see if it helps and maybe buy you some time.
